2013 Group Break #2: Topps Tribute Pack #6 (Final Pack of the Break)

Welcome to the sixth (and final) pack of the 2013 Topps Tribute group break!  Before the final pack, 12 of the 15 slots have at least one card (which is impressive since the box only holds 30 cards total).  The hits haven't been nearly as spread out however - Carlos Salgada landed three hits while DutchCardGuy nabbed the other two thus far.  The good news?  Someone else gets the final hit - and it might be the best hit of the box...

Pack 6:

36.  Nolan Ryan - Rangers

Nolan Ryan is the only pitcher to fan the side on nine pitches in both Leagues.  That's kind of a cool tidbit that I learned from the back of the card.

60.  Johnny Bench - Reds

My second card of the break (both Reds) is this beauty.  Actually, I lied.  This is probably one of the least impressive base cards in the set that I've seen...I guess it's the photo.  Even so, I love me some Johnny Bench so I'm pumped to get the card!

83.  Larry Doby - Indians

Doby was the first African-American in the American League.  A couple of days ago, my wife and I went and saw 42 (about Jackie Robinson) and loved it.  Maybe someday Doby will get his story told on the silver screen as well.  This is the second Doby in the box, the other being the parallel pulled in a previous pack.

95.  Robin Yount - Brewers

The Brewers get a little bit of love here.  That's SlightlyDisappointing's fifth base card of the break - impressive numbers!

TA-FJ:  Fergie Jenkins - Auto #51/99

I love, love, love this card!  A gorgeous looking autograph on a crisp, clean card design.  The photo complements the auto and the whole things looks spectacular.  Congrats to Tom who had to wait until the very last card of the break to land a card for himself...I do think the wait was worth it, hopefully he agrees!

And with that, the group break is over.  I'm pleased the 13 of the 15 slots ended up with at least one card, I always feel bad when I join a break and end up with nothing.  I'll have to see if I can't find at least something to send Sports Card Blog and Jon since they both got shutout in the break.

  1. Holy cow! I was nervous that I was going to get shut out. But you're right, that Fergie was totally worth it!

    Thanks for doing the break!

  2. The Bench card is a recycle of the image on the 2011 Topps SP that we traded last yr:

  3. That was fun. No Griffey, but still really fun. I look forward to seeing that Felix in person!
