The March Towards a Complete 1990 Topps Set Continues!

As I type this, I've watched my Reds 4 run lead evaporate thanks to a Todd Frazier error.  Of course, by the time you read this post Thursday the Reds game will have been decided one way or the other* (assuming there's not another marathon extra inning affair).  Although the season is young (only two games), I'm already frustrated with the Reds' offense.  It was atrocious for most of spring training and it continues to be atrocious to date.
*Reds win, Reds win!  Thank you Joey Votto!

Luckily, there's something not atrocious in my mailbox.

1990 Topps!

That's right - another envelope means I'm inching ever closer to having the entire set in my possession.  At this moment, I have written commitments from various people which should mean that the few remaining missing cards are on their way to me as we speak!

For now though, let's take a gander at a couple of the '90 Topps cards that Bryan from Golden Rainbow Cards sent my way.

Dan Plesac:

I was eight years old when the 1990 set came out.  Looking at Plesac's tight pants (highwater pants no less) makes me glad that I don't have much working memory of late 80s fashion styles.

Roger Craig:

I think just about every trade package involving 1990 Topps has involved at least one manager card.  I must have been rough on manager cards as a youngster for some reason that now escapes my puny memory.

It wasn't all '90 Topps in the trade package - in fact, there were three different Reds cards (all of which were new to my collection).

The first is a red parallel (perhaps Target?) card of Drew Stubbs.

As someone who hasn't purchased any new cards in 2013, I'm exceedingly grateful anytime I am able to acquire some of the new stuff - especially the parallels!

Moving back to 1994, I present this:

I don't think that this is one of Donruss' better Diamond King designs...it's way too much "Saved by the Bell" for me.  However, it is a new card for my collection so I'll love it despite it's quirks!

And finally, the real highlight of the trade - a brand new Barry Larkin card.

Yep.

A Larkin credit card of sorts.

I don't know much at all about this card - it'll require me to do some research before I write up a post for my Barry Larkin Collection.  I do know that it is both unique and awesome!

Thanks for the trade Bryan!  And, as always, if anyone else would like to trade, check out my want list and make an offer!

  1. Ah the old 95 Studio. I broke a cheap box of this a while back. There were two parallel inserts one per pack. The gold parallels the first 50 cards, and there's also a platinum parallel that parallels the first 25. Alas as Barry is card #37 he didn't make the Platinum cut off. I might have an extra base if you still need one.
