Barry Larkin Collection 191: 1998 Zenith 5x7 - #Z51

Barry Larkin
Year:  1998
Brand:  Zenith
Insert set:  5x7
Card number:  Z51

The '98 Zenith set is a confusing mess of large cards and small cards.  To the best of my knowledge, my particular Larkin is part of the regular 5x7 set.  I do not believe this is one of the parallel 5x7 cards, but I could be wrong about that.  If anyone has more information than what I could find here, please share it with me!

As for the card itself, what can I say?  It's big!  This isn't my only oversized Larkin card in my collection - but it might be my favorite.  The color scheme works well though I wish the bottom didn't look like a Cincinnati Bengals card.  The back of the card could use a bit of work - Zenith didn't do anything except print the text in a larger font.  A bit more creativity could have made this a special card.

  1. Those are pretty nice cards, even if they are a pain to store.

  2. A. Love oversized cardboard.

    B. I especially love 1998 Zenith... both baseball and hockey. The concept was very unique. Do you keep the 5x7 card intact? Or do you risk it and tear it open to reveal the standard size card inside? I busted a ton of this stuff and have intact 5x7 sets (hockey and baseball) as well as the standard size hockey set. You have the regular card of Larkin... you'd definitely be able to distinguish the silvers and golds... because the white part on the right side of the card would be either silver or gold. And the gold parallels were serial numbered out of 100.

    C. PATP is 100% correct.
