Allen & Ginter Case Rip: Box #6 - Packs 1 - 12

It's time to bust the final box in the first half of my case.  We begin, as usual, with the box loader.  This is another Wonders of the World card - this time it's the Empire State Building.

Packs 1 - 12:

The first twelve packs yielded a few cards of note (by now you are all sick of seeing most of Allen & Ginter I'm sure)...  Anyhow, I'm not sick of it all yet - especially the mini inserts since they are fairly rare (1:5 packs combined).  I got one more Codes card:

Linear A was discovered on clay tablets back in 1900 and still hasn't been deciphered.  It's possible that it actually doesn't contain anything useful (in terms of deciphering it).  That's probably an annoying thought to have in the back of your mind if you spend hours staring at this and trying to solve it.

The other two mini inserts were both from the Heavy Hangs the Head set.

This is a set that I seem to have a lot of luck in terms of pulling cards from it.  Other mini insert sets are almost totally missing from my case so far (I have exactly one Peacemakers card for instance).  Luckily, I like the Heavy Hangs the Head set a lot (and more than the Peacemakers) so no complaints from me about that.

I found one black bordered mini in the first half of the box:

You have to scan it when it's Ernie Banks.  That only seems correct.

Finally, I found two of the three promised hits.  The first would have been a money pull last year - this year, I doubt anyone cares (and that's why I always sell on the "hot" rookies)...

The other is an autograph - but it's of Penny Marshall (who?):

I don't know anything about Penny.  Looking at her IMDb page, I can see why I don't know her.  I watched Frasier occasionally but otherwise, I don't think I've seen anything she's done.

Once again, it's a decent box (and getting an auto is always a nice thing).  I should have the second half of the box up later tonight if all goes well.

  1. Are you kidding me - you never watched Laverne and Shirley? Did you live under a rock? I know I have a few years on you, but you should have been old enough when L&S was on ABC.

  2. Wha???? I agree with JediJeff, Laverne and Shirley was the bomb. She also directed A League of Their Own. BTW, she is also known as an avid Baseball card and memorabilia collector.

  5. Laverne and Shirley was a spinoff from Happy Days...you've seen Happy Days, right? If not, you've got some serious 70's TV series watching ahead of you.

  6. Since we're piling on?, Penny is also the sister of Garry Marshall, actor, writer, director and producer. He created Happy Days and the Odd Couple for TV among other things. Penny was also married to Rob Reiner for 10 years.

  7. Sheesh! I have watched Happy Days but I've never seen Laverne & Shirley. I guess that explains why people bid on her autograph when I listed it...I wasn't sure I'd get anything for it ;)

  8. I am also dumbfounded. But everyone else has covered it.

  9. She also directed two of my personal favorites, Big (Tom Hanks) and Awakenings (Robin Williams).

She guested on the Happy Days episode "A Date with Fonzie", introducing the world to the characters LaVerne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney (played by Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams, respectively). In that episode, Laverne and Shirley were a pair of wise-cracking brewery workers, who were dates for Fonzie and Richie. they were such a big hit that Gary Marshall spun them off into LaVerne and Shirley.

It would be worth your time to look up an episode or two if you really liked Happy Days.
good luck with the auto, it should sell well I would think.
