Barry Larkin
Year: 1991
Brand: Topps Stadium Club
Card number: 92
Year: 1991
Brand: Topps Stadium Club
Card number: 92
Variation: F
One of the great things about writing this blog is that I've been able to greatly expand my Barry Larkin collection. Back in 1991, I was only nine years old when the Stadium Club set was released (actually I was probably not quite yet nine since my birthday doesn't occur until November). Anyhow, at that point my card collection was 100% thanks to purchases made by my dad - and my dad never (to this day) liked full-bleed photos on baseball cards. In fact, he's always been a man who likes a nice white border around the card...which probably fully explains why I never had a single 1991 Stadium Club card as a kid.
As for the card itself, it's pretty nice. The front shows Larkin batting during batting practice (notice the lack of helmet) while the reverse shows some more advanced statistics (for the time) plus an image of Larkin's rookie card. It's certainly a solid effort from Topps (and might be why 1991 ought to be considered one of the high water marks for Topps despite the overproduction of the era).

Editor's Note: I learned that two different versions of this card exist, an "E" variation and an "F" variation which can be determined by the small letter on the backside of the card. The above card happens to be the "F" variation.
