Insert set: Cooperstown Cards
Card number: B2
In 1991, Score inserted a seven card Cooperstown Cards insert set in its factory sets for its flagship brand. The set consisted of seven different stars of the time (Boggs, Larkin, Griffey Jr., Henderson, Brett, Clark, and Ryan). As you can see, that's quite the list of players! Of course, in 1991 the Reds were coming off of a sweep of the Athletics in the World Series - no one saw their imminent downfall coming...one that would last the greater part of a decade and a half with one or two blips of minor success in 1995 and 1999.
As for the card itself, the front features a rendering of Larkin that's a little bit creepy. It looks like his face has been airbrushed heavily - a weird look for a ballplayer. The back includes a gigantic box of text and little else. You can tell the card is a 1991 Score card though by the large Score logo and the ugly borders - something 1991 Score had in spades.
