Today's a good day because it's my birthday. Actually, I don't get all that excited about my birthday anymore but this year I know that my wonderful wife purchased me one of those giant LEGO sets that I love - in my case, the Palace Cinema. I'm pretty sure I know what I'll be doing when I get home from work tonight!
For now though, let's look at the next three cards in my countdown.
#39: Mickey Mantle
Mantle's birthday is on October 20 so I don't have that in common with him. I am basically the same height as the Mick though (he's listed as 5'11" - I'm probably 5'10" or so). As for the card image, being Mickey Mantle is what put the card in the Top 40...it's not the greatest image but it's iconic.
#38: Eddie Murray
Murray's birthday is in February (and he's over 6' tall) so I can't say we have much in common. He also wears bright orange (as seen in the photo) and I don't. Why does this card slot in at 38 you ask? Well, two words: Mutton Chops.
#37: Wade Boggs
It would have been cool if one of the three featured players from today shared my birthday (or even birth month) but alas, that was not to be. Boggs is a June birthday boy (in case you were wondering). I like this image though because it's confusing. Who's the Red Sox player in the background? What's he doing? Why is giving a creepy grin? Boggs is a third baseman, is that the short stop? If so, why is walking to the right while Boggs is fielding...wouldn't he still be going left to back up the play? And seriously, what's with the creeper grin?

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! May many sportscards come your way.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like pitcher Bruce Hurst in the background of the Boggs card. Based on that I suspect Boggs is fielding a bunt.
