Card number: 345
The 1999 Topps set seems to be a mostly forgettable set. To be fair, it's not exactly a bad set...but Topps went a little too far in trying to make it stand out and all they ended up with a stack of cards where people now have to ask "is this a gold parallel?" before realizing that all cards in 1999 Topps have a gold border.
The front of the Larkin card features a nice action shot of him in the field, but the vertical name is something that should be illegal on all cards. Also, you can barely make out the Cincinnati Reds team name at the bottom of the card - gold font on dirt is a poor design choice.
The back of the card features a lot of nice things including a different action photo, full career statistics, and even a designation for Larkin's 1995 year in which he won the MVP award. Unfortunately, the back also features difficult to read card numbers and a strange yellowish background behind the text which is a bit distracting.
