A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

Gint-a-Cuffs: Oh Poohsticks!

Welcome back to another Gint-a-Cuffs spectacular post.  Today, we finish off the first third of the box.  Heading into pack #7, my box has chalked up 59 points which isn't terrible (nor is it awesome).  Here's hoping we avoid Yankees and instead pull some good point scoring fare today!

Pack 7:
121.  Freddie Freeman
133.  Xander Bogaerts
163.  Paul Molitor
169.  Dale Murphy
269.  Jose Abreu
292.  Andre Dawson
Pastime's Pastimes:  James Shields
Athletic Endeavors:  6. Poohsticks

Now this was a good pack considering there were no actual relics/autos in it!  First, the Molitor and Freeman are both favorite players (+2 each).  The Shield's Pastime's Pastime is another 2 points.  Finally, we end with a case hit of sorts which is worth +5 points.  When all's said and done, we almost hit 10 points...

As an aside, the Poohsticks card is actually a sport from Winnie the Pooh.  You can read more than you probably ever wanted to know about the game here (including information on a World Championship).

Pack total:  9 points
Running total:  68 points

Pack 8:
23.  Snoop Lion
69.  Johnny Cueto
176.  Anthony Robles
194.  Avisail Garcia
253.  Rickey Henderson
349.  John Smoltz
World's Capitals:  17.  Taipei
Reg. mini:  197.  Wade Miley

Snoop Lion is a Yankee in training since he's worth -1.  Cueto balances that out though since he's a Red (+1 favorite team card).  The Smoltz is a short print (+2) and the World's Capitals rounds out the scoring with another 2 points to the good.

Pack total:  4 points
Running total:  72 points

A full third of the box (plus the box topper) is now complete.  72 points is alright but it's still being buoyed by the great box topper...  I don't know whether this box will have what it takes or not, but I do think I'm not out of the running yet (which I don't think I could say at this point in time in last year's competition when I finished second-to-last)!
