2014 Topps Stadium Club Group Break BEGINS! (With Donruss?!)

Good morning!  I'm finally getting closer to getting back to my regular blog schedule...and it is finally time to start the 2014 Topps Stadium Club Group break!

However, as I said yesterday I am still waiting for a few more payments to roll in...so before I dig into the main reason people signed up for the break I thought I'd throw in a few bonus packs.

What bonus packs you ask?  Well, for starters - how about a pair of true wax packs?

That's two packs of old school Donruss (not the cheap Panini knockoffs of the modern era).

I don't think anyone will mind me throwing in some extra cards while we wait for the final few payments to get in...so without further ado let's open up the first (bonus) pack of the group break!

The 1990 Donruss set happened to come in the bright orange pack.  This is a bit of deceptive advertising since the actual 1990 Donruss cards are all bright red.  Your classic bait and switch for orange lovers I guess.

The good news is you do get 16 cards in the pack (plus 3 puzzle pieces).  If Panini really wanted to impress me they would have returned to the 15+ card pack size.

The first card of the group break is...

*drum roll*

Mike Flanagan - Blue Jays

Congrats to Caitlin who claimed the Blue Jays (along with a bunch of other teams) for landing the first card of the break.  Now let's roll through the rest of the pack and see what else we get...

Gary Wayne - Twins
Chris Bosio - Brewers

I always liked the old school Donruss Diamond Kings cards, even if some of the paintings looked super creepy.

Duane Ward - Blue Jays
Juan Berenguer - Twins
Ron Darling - Mets
John Smoltz - Braves

This is (I believe) Tom Glavine, not John Smoltz.  If I recall correctly, back in the day one of these cards (either the corrected version or the error card) used to book for a pretty penny.

Jerome Walton - Cubs
Oddibe McDowell - Braves
Jose Uribe - Giants
Sid Bream - Pirates
Chris James - Padres
Ron Oester - Reds
Mike Maddux - Phillies
Craig Biggio - Astros

A nice early card of Biggio - hopefully Bru is happy with a surprise Houston great showing up in the break!
Terry Pendleton - Cardinals
Puzzle pieces 61, 62, 63 of the Carl Yastrzemski puzzle - Red Sox

That's it for the first pack - I'll definitely include the other Donruss pack that I scanned at the top of the post in the group break as well...perhaps I'll have time to rip and post that one tomorrow.  At that point, I can only hope that all payments are in and we can then get to the real "meat" of the break:  the two hobby boxes of 2014 Topps Stadium Club!  As for this bonus pack, I don't think you can get much better for a 1990 pack of Donruss.  We had a couple of legitimate stars plus a few other fan favorites and a Diamond King card.  What more can you ask for in a group break start?!

Stay tuned for more!

I'd be impressed if Panini brought back the puzzle pieces.
