Barry Larkin
Year: 1993
Brand: Pinnacle Cooperstown
Card number: 26
The Pinnacle Cooperstown set was a 30 card set that highlighted possible future Hall of Famers. With the benefit of hindsight, most of Pinnacle's choices for the set ended up being solid selections. The full checklist (courtesy of Baseballcardpedia) is below:
The Barry Larkin card itself is quite nice. A clean, simple design on the front showcases Barry hitting what I presume to be a double in the gap. On the back you get a shot of Larkin fielding along with a short blurb about why Larkin had excellent Cooperstown potential back in 1993.
I'm not a huge fan of small sets like this (30 card sets seem more like insert sets to me) but I will admit that this particular design works. I also like the player selection done by Pinnacle and I think that had they tried to stretch it to 40 or 50 players that set's theme would have suffered greatly.

That's a pretty sweet Larkin card.
ReplyDeleteFolks in Atlanta would take umbrage at you not singling Dale Murphy out from the "guys that should be in the Hall without juicing" group, though! :-)
