Barry Larkin
Year: 1994
Brand: Topps Stadium Club
Card number: 414
When I first saw a 1994 Stadium Club card, I remember thinking that it was a really strange design. Flash forward over two decades later (woah!) and I still think it's a strange design. I think the most jarring part of the design is the plethora of fonts used on both the front and back of the card. Why did Topps think that writing the player's name in two fonts on the front was a good idea? The only good news is that Topps didn't use Comic Sans anywhere on the card. It's a small victory.
You know what though? For such a mishmash of a card design, I can't help but kind of like it. That's right, I admit to liking the 1994 Stadium Club set...something that I don't think most people would do! I enjoy the write up and the unique way of presenting some statistics on the back of the card...the photography is top notch as usual...and how can you not fall in love with a Larkin card where the made-up word "cin-tillating" is used?
