Delivery Time! Sports Cards Ate My Brain - The Ken Griffey Jr. Countdown (#17 - 13)

About a week or so ago, I received a small flat rate mailer from Scott over at Sports Cards Ate My Brain.  Scott and I had traded a few times back in 2012 and 2013...but then according to my records at least we didn't have a single swap in 2014.  Luckily, it's 2015 now and Scott and I are back to our usual trading!

The envelope that Scott sent me was full of goodies including some Reds' hits, some 2015 Topps Series 1 cards, and a big pile of Ken Griffey Jr. cards.  Since I love Griffey Jr - I'm starting with him for today's Delivery Time! post.

In fact, Scott sent along 17 different Ken Griffey Jr. cards.  Just for fun, I've decided to rank all 17 of 'em in a series of blog posts beginning with this one!

#17:  2008 Bowman

For anyone that's ever read my blog, it's not a big surprise to see Bowman near the bottom of any countdown list.  This particular Bowman design isn't awful (though I couldn't tell you what year it was from without consulting the back of the card).  What is sort of awful about the card is the photograph (Griffey seems so far away) and the fake signature at the bottom of the card in gold foil.  Ugh, the foil really ruins it!

#16:  2008 Topps:

This is one of those Trading Card History cards that Topps made a bazillion of in 2008.  There's nothing particularly wrong with this card - its low ranking is mostly due to the high caliber quality of the remaining Griffey Jr. cards that Scott sent my way!

#15:  2008 Topps:

Maybe I have something against cards from 2008?  I honestly had no idea I ranked three consecutive '08 cards at the bottom until I began typing this post!  This card is actually numbered TB4 which makes me think it might be from a Reds' team set rather than the usual base set.  I just never fell in love with the circus dots design of '08 Topps - but I do love the image that Topps used for the card.  Griffey looks like he's having a good time!

#14:  2000 Bowman Chrome:

Ok, this card was one of the hardest cards to rank.  Is it the worst card?  The best card?  Why the heck did anyone think it was a good idea to make an insert set of baseball players called "Teen Idols" anyhow?!  I will say that my favorite part of this strange card is the Reds' team logo lurking in the middle of the star.  It's a small touch that really adds to the overall look of the card!  I must also admit that while this card looks awful in the above scan, it's actually quite nice to look at in hand.

#13:  2000 Topps Finest:

We end today's portion of the Griffey Jr. countdown with a pretty solid All-Star insert card.  The background is a bit weird but otherwise I like the card.  I think the dark green color (which I like) saved this card a bit as I could have easily ranked the 2000 Bowman Chrome card above this one on another day.  This card also scanned like garbage - you can barely make out the green at the top of the card (so you'll just have to trust me I guess)!

That's it for this round - stay tuned though as I'll have more from Scott's great trade package in the upcoming days!
