TCDB Monday: It's a Monster, Folks!

Delivery Time! Sportscards from the Dollar Store Sends Goodies!

The recent group break kept me busy - so busy, in fact, that I didn't get a chance to go through the couple of trade packages that arrived during the group break!  Well, it's time to right that wrong right now with a package from Douglas over at Sportscards from the Dollar Store.

Douglas actually joined in my recent break - and this package was basically a bunch of cards to make up for me having to ship to Canada now that the Post Office charges an arm and a leg to ship north of the border.  Seriously, I had Douglas' cards packed up in a small flat rate mailer and I was told it would cost me over $20 to ship that...so I threw the entire box in a bubble mailer that I bought on the spot at the post office...saved about $4 even with buying an overpriced mailer.

Sheesh.

Anyhow, let's take a look at some of the goodies that Douglas sent my way...that's way more fun than talking about shipping charges!

First up, some 2015 Topps Series 1 cards.

Thanks to Douglas, I can safely shut the door on Series 1...other than the retail-only Robbed insert set.  Douglas did his best there too though since he hooked me up with the Giancarlo Stanton card from that set.

Pretty nice card - and a nice insert set.  It says something though that Topps made (approximately) 300 insert sets in Series 1 and the only one I bothered trying to collect was the Robbed set.

In addition to the want list help, Douglas also sent me a smattering of assorted Reds.  I picked the two coolest to show off here beginning with a itty bitty Mike Leake card from 2015 Gypsy Queen.

That's a red mini numbered out of only 50 (in this case, 47/50).  Pretty cool - and the red border works well with Cincinnati Reds cards!

The final card of note was this rather shiny Brandon Phillips All-Star Stitches relic card.

The card itself is from 2013 - I'm assuming it's from the Update series but I have no idea if that's correct.  I do know tha tback of the card says that this piece of cloth is from Phillips' 2013 MLB All-Star Game workout jersey.  If the jersey that Phillips is wearing on the front of the card is indeed the workout jersey, then this bit of blue must have come from right around the neck line...there isn't any other blue except in the National League logo area - and that presumably is more patch-like in terms of material.

Even if I can't quite figure it out, it's still a great addition to my collection!  And that card is also numbered out of 50!

Many thanks Douglas - and I hope your group break cards have arrived by now..or else though should shortly (they were mailed last Saturday).

As for anyone else - if you'd like to trade be sure to check out my want list and make an offer!

  1. The post office can be a strange one on this side of the border as well. I was sending junk wax set builders in a 200 count box stateside, and was told it would cost me about 20 bucks because the box was so small. I then packing taped some tax brochures to the side, making the package larger, and it cost half the price.

  2. After a quick google image search, I'm pretty sure the orange jersey BP is wearing on the card is the actual NL game jersey. It's highly likely that they flipped the colors for warmups.
