Better Know a Blogger: Frankie (from My Life in the Sports Card Hobby)

Welcome to the penultimate Better Know a Blogger entry (only my answers remain to be shared)!  Enjoy today's entry!

-----

1.   Your name (or alias if you prefer):  Frankie
2.  Your blog website:   My Life in the Sports Card Hobby

3.  What kind of collector do you consider yourself (team collector, player collector, set collector, etc.).  Why do you collect that way?
I don’t think there’s really anything that defines the kind of collector I am, but I rarely put together sets. My main focus is Hall Of Fame autographs, and any Nolan Arenado cards. I consider myself a Nolan Arenado super collector, as I am trying to get all of Arenado’s base (and some insert) cards in my collection.
4.  In your opinion, what could the major card companies (Topps, Panini, etc.) do to make your style of collecting better for you?
I think they need to limit the amount of autographs and relics. The market is being flooded with all sorts of cards, and I think they either need to limit them, or make more unique relic cards, such as hats, gloves, or even cleats. Sort of like tools of the trade.
5.  What is your favorite part of your collection?  This could be one specific item, or a binder of cards, etc.
I’m not sure there’s an answer to this question… I love in person autographs, especially when they’re personalized to me. My favorite card is my Craig Biggio 1/1 Dynasty, but my favorite item, is my Mariano Rivera signed game used bullpen pitching rubber. I could keep going on, because I have many favorite items, but I’ll just keep it to anything personalized to me.
6.  Most of us have a favorite song that we like for no good reason – heck, it might even be embarrassing.  Do you have a favorite baseball card that might fit that bill? -
Hm… I don’t think I do.
7.  If you were forced to part with your entire collection except for one card, which card would you keep?
Billy Martin 1956 Topps SCG 3.5
8.  Many of the blogs (including my own at times) seem to decry Topps’ lack of vision and creativity.  Can you think of something creative that could be done for an upcoming card set?
 Game used
9.  What is your profession?  How did you end up there?  If you are in school, what do you plan to major in and/or what job do you hope to get after graduating?
I’m 14 years old, and I love baseball. I love playing baseball, but I love watching baseball even more. My dream job is to announce for YES, or MLB Network, and I hope to be able to live that dream someday!
10.  What is your favorite place that you’ve ever visited?  Why?
Zermatt Switzerland, or Wengen. Skiing in Zermatt was amazing, and the scenery was beautiful, especially the Matterhorn. In Wengen, my family and I would spend most of the day hiking, and we would go back to our hotel, and have dinner. Writing this makes me want to go back… But every time, I ask, I get, “Switzerland is way too expensive.” Oh well, I’ll keep trying.
11.  Many of us have favorite foods or customs that are somewhat local to where we live.  Do you have any such things that you particularly love?
The Jersey shore. It’s only a short drive, and often times, I ride my bike there. That’s the only thing that I can think of.
12.  Do you have any other hobbies besides card collecting?
I love collecting cups from when I go to different stadiums, and I also like collecting newspapers with baseball articles.
13.  Tell me something interesting about yourself (that we haven’t covered in the first twelve questions).
I sell legos to make most of my money!

Once again, I have to give a big "thanks" to Frankie (and everyone else who volunteered to participate in my Better Know a Blogger series.  The entire series has been a blast for me - and we had a great selection of bloggers participate (young, old, male, female, and even a few people from around the world)!  I've enjoyed the process immensely...and I do think I'll return with a new take on Better Know a Blogger at some point in the future - with all new questions of course!

For now, let me say "Thanks!" once again...and thanks for reading my blog in general!

  2. Man Legos have really blown up. A few weeks ago, I guy had stacks of them thrown out on bed sheets at the flea market and there were 10 to 15 men, women, and children sitting on the ground sifting through them all filling their cups. I've rekindled my love for them in the past year or so... but I pray it never gets to the point where I'll sit on the ground sifting through stacks of them at the flea market.
