Spring break for my is just around the corner...I need to survive about eight more days and then I'll have a full week off from work. That time will (hopefully) be used to get caught up on grading, lesson planning, and lots of other work-related tasks. Of course, I'd also like to use some of that time to get caught up with some of my blogging related activities - especially my LEGO blog! All that said, the one area where I am already catching up in is my trade packages. I've mailed out quite a few over the past several days...and I have also made some serious progress in terms of posting packages that have arrived at my house over the past couple of months.
Today's package is an older one - I think this arrived back in January but don't let me slow posting fool you - this was one of the best packages of the year (to date)! The great contents were courtesy of Duane over at Democratic Roadkill, a blog title so good that I can only assume Duane sees a lot of extra traffic during election cycles!
So what was so great about the trade package? Well, it started off with a Gypsy Queen card from 2013.
This is a set that I'm working on still (even though the so-called "magic" of Gypsy Queen has definitely worn off for me). That said, landing the Swisher card means I'm now only 18 cards away from completing the entire set! Slow and steady, am I right?!
Speaking of slow and steady, we now get to the meat of the package: Allen & Ginter minis!
Duane sent me a virtual tour of Ginter minis beginning with the 2012 edition of the set.
The Fashionable Ladies are certainly looking fly for the times... The Hanley mini is appreciated because in 2012 I thought I would give collecting the full regular back mini set a try (obviously I'm still working on that set so it wasn't one of my best decisions). An even poorer decision on my part was to try and collect all the various mini forms of the Reds in the set - that Bruce is one of the gold bordered minis that were retail (I think) exclusives.
Returning back to 2013, Duane actually finished off a pair of mini sets for me!
The Famous Finds set is pretty nice (even if the images are rather dull). The Cairo Geniza was the final card that I needed. And then the other set that I now have complete from 2013?
That's the final The First Americans card that I needed - and it's a rather striking photo! There's something so satisfying about being able to delete a full insert set from my want list...and after I scan the cards, there's something satisfying about sliding the final card into its 15-pocket page for eternal safe keeping!
That got a little creepy, didn't it? My apologies. Let's pretend that didn't happen and move on to 2014.
While I didn't get to finish off any of the 2014 inset sets, I did get quite a bit closer thanks to the eight minis that Duane sent my way!

And finally, we make our way to 2015!
This was another great batch because I can now say I have the full A World Beneath Our Feet set...
...and the full Magnates, Barons, and Tycoons set....
...AND the full Hoist the Black Flag insert set!
And with all that, if that weren't enough, I'm also now one card closer to completing yet another mini set from 2015 - the First Ladies set!
It seemed fitting to end with a political card from a blog named Democratic Roadkill!

That photo of Swisher reminds me of the "ridiculously photogenic" 10k runner meme that took the Internet by storm a few years ago. If I were Nick, I'd hire that photographer to do all of my imaging.
