A TCDB Surprise Card from mpdillard25!

Group Break: 2016 Panini Donruss: Like It, Love It, or Loathe It... You Decide!

We are closing in on the end of the 2016 Panini Donruss box.  It's been a good box so far - let's keep going!

Pack 15:
83.  Mike Trout - Angels
105.  Jason Kipnis - Indians
102.  Ben Revere - Blue Jays
169.  Delino DeShields Jr. - Rangers
165.  Yu Darvish - Rangers
Power Alley:  9.  Eric Hosmer - Royals

Stat Parallel:  117.  Shin-Soo Choo - Rangers (#281/281)

This is the second Stat Parallel from the box.  This one "celebrates" Choo's .281 career batting average - and seeing as how it is number 281 out of 281, this is the final such card printed (assuming cards are printed/numbered in order).
1982 Base:  14.  Carlos Correa - Astros

Do the hop!

Pack 16:
187.  Pete Rose - Reds
78.  Alcides Escobar - Royals
85.  Yoenis Cespedes - Mets
87.  Anthony Rizzo - Cubs
92.  Kendrys Morales - Royals
Diamond Kings:  14.  Zack Greinke - Dodgers

1982 Base:  6.  Dallas Keuchel - Astros

I like the giant sombrero in the background.
Rated Rookie:  Kyle Schwarber - Cubs (#847/999)

I don't really know what this insert is supposed to be exactly - it's super thick (think relic card thickness) and serially numbered.  But the main focus of the card is nothing but a giant "rated rookie" logo in blue foil.  It's both cool and weird at the same time.  I can't decide if I like it, love it, or loathe it.

Another nice pair of packs, even if that Rated Rookie insert is confusing to my senses.  What do you all think of that card (and of the product in general)?  I'm curious...and if Panini is reading this, I'm sure they are curious too!

Comments

  1. I wish that Panini didn't have to discolor the uniforms so much as to make them nearly unrecognizable in order to avoid a lawsuit.

I also wish Panini would go with a photo that doesn't end up looking like an art project by the time they get done retouching it.

  2. The Power Alley cards are kinda cool, got to admit.

  3. @ Tony: I agree, it can be a pain when trying to figure at a glance what team pile to put a card.

@ Night Owl: Agreed, this is a nice retro themed product without feeling like a Ginter/Gypsy Queen clone.

  4. Buying 4 teams paid off. Hoping it does for the higher end stuff too.
