Barry Larkin
Year: 2000
Brand: Pacific Crown Collection
Insert set: Moment of Truth
Card number: 10
The 2000 Pacific Crown Collection Moment of Truth insert set was seeded 1:37 packs meaning that the cards were rarer than a box hit (each box had only 36 packs in it). For me, this is a Jeckyl and Hyde insert set. On the one hand, the card design on the front is fairly hideous. The "ghosted" player, the big foil "swoop," and the way-too-many-different-fonts makes for a mess of a design.
On the other hand, the back of the card is kind of cool. The insert set celebrates one particular day (in Larkin's case, that would be June 28, 1991). I like the date "in the clouds" on the edge of the card - and I like the write-up of Larkin's monster day. Couple that with a large team logo, nice head shot of the player, and an easy-to-read card number and you've got a winning design on the backside of the card!
All things considered, this card is a perfect representation of what Pacific was all about. You might love it. You might hate it. You might feel both ways at the same time. But gosh darn it, Pacific made you feel something whenever you looked at their cards!
