What I Do When Baseball Cards Don't Interest Me...

This past Monday, I had to go to Target to pick something up for my wife.  While there, I made my usual stop at the baseball card aisle.  Since I have yet to buy any new cards for 2017, I thought surely there would be something that would catch my eye.

I knew that I wasn't interested in the base Topps set, nor was I looking for Opening Day.  I did see some blasters of Gypsy Queen for sale - and I've liked what I've seen from that set on the blogs.  However, the blaster proudly proclaimed "one short print guaranteed per box" which made me think that putting the full set together must be nearly impossible (and prohibitively expensive).  Therefore, I passed on that too.

Next, I took a stroll back to the LEGO section.  LEGO is another hobby of mine, but like baseball cards, there hasn't been much released lately to capture my attention.  With a complete lack of any sales (and none of the new collectible minifigures to be found despite Monday being the official release day), I left that aisle empty handed as well.

Finally, in a somewhat desperate attempt to find something to buy as a "end of semester present" for myself, I walked all the way to the back to the electronics section.  While there, a brand new Nintendo Switch caught my eye (Target had exactly one in stock).  However, there was already another guy waiting for a working to come over and help him - and given that there wasn't much else in that display case, I could only assume he was going to buy the Switch.

At that point, I decided to leave Target.  At least I got what my wife wanted me to get for her (and I grabbed a new stuffed toy for my dog which she loved)!

On my way home, on a whim, I decided to check out my local Wal-Mart to see if they might have a Nintendo Switch (I've long ago given up on my Wal-Mart's card "aisle").  Amazingly, Wal-Mart had exactly one console in stock as well...but this time I was the first to see it.

And so...

That's a brand new Nintendo Switch with two games (Mario Kart 8 and Zelda).  I had Mario Kart 8 for the WiiU but the new version has all of the tracks that used to be behind a paywall.  As for Zelda, I've only just started the adventure but so far I like it a lot (and this is coming from a guy who never played Zelda growing up).

Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I have some dungeons to explore since I have no new baseball cards to sort (or talk about)!

  1. My daughter had this scoped out the day it came out.

  2. I've only barely scratched the surface of the new Zelda game but so far it is as good as the hype proclaimed it to be! In fact, I'm not even a Zelda fan and I love the game thus far.
