Five Years (or more?) Later, I Finally Started the Project!

As my post title suggests, my latest project has been a long, long time in the making.  I am speaking, of course, of my Reds Frankenset.  I've been putting aside cards for potential inclusion in the Frankenset since before we moved to our new house...and yet, here we are years and years later and I'm only now starting to work on the project.

Truth be told, it's sort of a daunting project at this point in time.  I have an entire shelf on my bookcase with nothing but cards for potential inclusion in one of three (four?) Frankensets that I hope to eventually build (Reds, Non-Reds, Mini, and maybe one more based on inserts/parallels).
This is probably 40% of the Reds cards that I set aside for possible inclusion

Rather than try to sort everything all at once, I took four full Ginter boxes' worth of cards and sorted them into piles based on their card number.  When I do my sorting, I first sort by hundreds, then each pile by tens, and finally one more sort by ones.  When you are dealing with cards from a variety of sets (and therefore, card numbers all over the place on the back of the cards), this is a long process!
Sorting by 100s first.  The pile for 1-100 is by far the largest (which makes sense of course).  It is slim pickings in the 500, 600, and 700s though.

After sorting through the four boxes of cards, I then went through and created my first attempt at a Reds Frankenset.  I know that I still have a ton more Reds cards to sort through for possible inclusion, but it feels to good to at least have finally started the project!
In progress sort.

Eventually, I will show off the pages in the set but that's a long ways off from this point in time.  I'm simply tickled to have finally started the darn thing - who cares if I ever actually finish it?!

  1. Have fun with this project. One of these days I'm going to build an Athletics Frankenset.
