(Even) Better Know a Blogger: White Sox Cards

Welcome to (Even) Better Know a Blogger week!  Each day this week, my goal is to publish an interview with a fellow blogger.  To be included, bloggers had to email me for a questionnaire, fill it out, and then email it back to me.  Simple!  I think many of us enjoyed getting to know fellow bloggers back when I ran a similar feature a number of years ago...and I'm happy to report that some of the same people that participated back then joined up this time around as well!  Let's get to it!

PS:  If you want in, there is still time!  All you need to do is email me and I'll send you the questionnaire.  Also, if you've already received the questionnaire and would like to be included, please make sure to email me your answers ASAP!

-----------------------

1.       Your name (or alias if preferred): Steve Gierman

2.       Your blog website: White Sox Cards

3.       Your social media handle(s): White Sox Cards (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

4.       What are your favorite sport teams? White Sox, Blackhawks, Expos, Brewers, Cardinals

5.       What kind of collector do you consider yourself to be (team collector, player collector, set collector, etc.).  Why do you collect that way?
A team collector mostly, with a few player collections and a couple of sets. I used to try to collect everything, but as the hobby expanded that became cumbersome. I decided to collect what I truly got excited for... my all-time favorite team, a few players that I thought highly of and the occasional set that I really loved.

6.       What is your favorite item in your collection?
I have a Joe Jackson bat relic, that I am very fond of.

7.       If you could add any one card to your collection (that you don’t currently own), what card would it be and why?
I would add a 1909 T206 Fielder Jones card in decent shape, ungraded. Either variation. The reason is simple. I've always wanted a T206 original and Fielder Jones has always captured my interest.

8.       Thinking back to when you first started collecting, how have your habits changed (if at all)?  Any ideas why?
My collecting habits have become more focused. Instead of collecting everything, I tend to be very specific in what I collect.

9.       If an alien being came down from the stars and forced you to describe yourself using no more than three cards as talking points, how would you do it?
I would choose the 1983 Topps card of Alfredo Griffin. It represents the frailty of man and the tenacity and perseverance of the species.

10.   If you could give any of the major sport card companies one piece of advice about something you’d like changed (or perhaps simply continued) what would it be?
Parallels need to be less and player variety needs to be more.

11.   Where do you live?  What is your favorite local food?
I currently live in Kalamazoo, Michigan. There are plenty of great places to eat. One of my favorites is Niskers Char-Grill burgers and Slap Shot Hockey Bar. If it's summer though, you can't go wrong with the Root Beer Stand. Homemade root beer and hot dogs!

12.   If someone were to visit you, what place (within an hour of travel from your residence) would you suggest someone be sure to check out?
Capri Drive-In in Coldwater, Michigan. Everyone should experience watching a first run movie in such a place.

13.   What is your profession?  How did you end up there?  If you are in school, what do you plan to major in and/or what job do you hope to get after graduating?
I currently work at Target, mainly in the music, movies and books section, along with seasonal. I ended up at Target after Toys R Us closed, where I was a manager in charge of preschool, action toys and collectibles, and arts and crafts.

14.   Do you have any hobbies besides card collecting?
I have extensive movie and music collections and I also enjoy creating music.

15.   Tell me something interesting about yourself that hasn’t been covered in the first 14 questions!
I am a published author and most of my spare time right now is taken up by my 19 month old grandson and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Many thanks to Steve for kicking off my (Even) Better Know a Blogger series.  I had to look up the restaurant that Steve mentioned (hopefully the link I added in is for the correct place).  A couple of things stood out to me when I took a gander at their menu.  First, "fountain pop" is a new combination of words for me.  I know a large swath of the country calls soda "pop" (or simply "coke") but I didn't know "fountain pop" was a thing.  Second, I see a "Detroit National Coney Sauce" as a burger topper option and I'm quite curious what exactly that is.  Overall though, I think I would enjoy myself at Niskers, the burgers sound delicious!

I have a bunch more interviews coming up this week.  While you wait, take a gander at Steve's blog and maybe tell him I sent you.  Let's use this (Even) Better Know a Blogger series to help everyone gain a bit more traffic on their blogs as well!

  5. Yes. The website to Niskers is the right one. They have delicious food, but I haven't tried everything yet. The Coney sauce is close to a chili, but it's more of a gravy.
