New Blog Template, Layout, and Color Scheme - Tell Me What You Think

The old Nachos Grande blog design was getting a little long in the tooth so I figured it was high time for a fresh coat of paint*.

*did I win the competition for most sayings or idioms in a single sentence to start off a blog post?

Seriously though, I spent a good chunk of the morning do a full blog redesign and now I'd like to know what you think.  I tried to make both my want list and my trade bait easy to find, but sometimes what I think is easy someone else may not!  I've also completely changed how the blog displays posts, especially on the main page.

I'd love to hear you thoughts (positive, negative, or otherwise) in the comments below.

  1. Hmmmm... fresh coat of paint indeed. The colors don't have much to do with nachos, but I love the white text. Very easy on the eyes.
FYI, when I clicked on this post all the fun links in the header and far right column aren't there. If I go back to "home" everything is there again. Maybe that's a cookie thing or something on my end. But, I came to post first rather than "home" and I thought you were all minimalist on us.

    1. Thanks for the feedback. I added in the links to the most used pages on the right of each post. The header only shows up on the home page of the blog, individual post pages will only have the links on the far right. One of my (many) goals of the redesign was to reduce the cluttered look of my previous blog layout. Maybe I went a little too simple?

  2. If you were to change from one single-page template to another single-page template, would all the items be retained? (Not only your posts, but also all the comments and all gadgets you had on the sidebar?)

  3. I too noticed that if my browser window is smaller-sized (but not fully mobile), I can't see the menu items on the right. Just something to consider. I'll probably miss the old velveeta/nacho cheese colors, but I think go with whatever is going to make you feel refreshed and inspired!

    1. I made the link text that lovely cheesy color, does that count?

  4. Love the new color scheme, even if, as P-town Tom mentioned, it's not very Nachos like. I'd love to see the sidebar that appears on your homepage to be static, appearing on all pages and posts. Looks great!

    1. I'm not quite sure I know how to do that with this blog template but I'll look into it.

  5. I do like the overall color scheme and the way your title page displays posts. However when I navigated directly to this post from my reading list... I couldn't see the title of your blog anymore. That's not an issue for me, since I know the name of your blog. I also didn't see your menu, but ended up shrinking my font and then it showed up off to the right.
