The Great Purging 5

Back in the early days of my blog, I would regularly try and "clean out" my blog roll of blogs that had become inactive, defunct, or taken over by spam bots.  From 2010 to 2012, I completed four such cleanups.

And then, nothing...

So here I am, seven years later from my last blog roll cleanup and I've decided to finally try and get the reading list back under control.  I like to do this process both for my own blog's sake but also as a way of offering a final tribute to blogs long gone.  Unfortunately, since it's been seven years since I've last updated things in a Great Purging, I'm guessing many of the blogs that I'm about to remove from my list will offer little to no clues as to what type of content they used to hold!

Still, we will try to muddle through.

At the start of this latest purging, my blog roll has 364 blogs on it (an increase of only 92 blogs which seems kind of low for seven year's worth of time)!  Anyhow, let's commence the purging!  As with previous purges, I'll list each blog title and link to it for posterity.  Who knows, maybe one of the blogs will eventually rise from the ashes?!

Blogs that seem like they are no longer being updated:
Sports Cards Uncensored:  Last updated in February 2019, Sports Cards Uncensored was an interesting (albeit somewhat controversial) read for awhile.

State of the Hobby...I'm Your Average Card Collector:  Last updated in 2017 and it looks like it went "spammy" well before that.

Stats on the Back:  A card blog dedicated to the back side of baseball cards.  Hasn't seen a new post since September 2014.

Beardy's Baseball Blog:  He closed up shop at this site back in 2010 and posted the link to his new home.  That new blog (called The Mojo Beard) hasn't been updated since 2014.

Cardboard APB Captured:  Last updated in 2010.  A blog dedicated to the pursuit of cardboard white whales (or maybe gray whales at least).

Blogs that are dead and have no content (and/or only spam now):
Sportscards Ate My Brain
All Your Base Cards Belong to Us
Way Off Base
Bass on Balls
Arbitrary Crap
Friars On Cardboard
Toronto Blue Jays Cards
Schuyler's Stuff
Nearly Mint
SITELYBlog
Baseball Dad's Sportscard Trading Post
The Entomological Review
Three Up, Three Down
$30 a Week Habit
Million Card Giveaway Blog
The Karmic Boomerang
Who Own Da Chiefs
Plotting Votes
Hobby Box Report
Tomahawk Chopping Cardboard and More
Georgia Mindset
Jeff's Baseball Card Collection Blog
Babes Love Baseball (redirects to spam now so I won't link it)
tddance (seemed to take a suspiciously long time to load, I won't link it here)

Blogs that are now labeled as "open to invited readers only":
Six-4-Three DP
The Cardraven
Brian Buchanan
Card Cache
The Priceless Pursuit

Phew, that's a lot of blogs and honestly, I've barely begun the purge (but my hands are tired of typing and copying weblinks)!  At the moment, my blog roll is now sitting at 331 blogs which means I knocked off 33 blogs in the blink of an eye.  I have many, many more blogs to purge but that will have to wait for another day (though hopefully that day comes sooner than nine years from now)!

As for my blog roll, if you know of any active baseball card blogs NOT on my blog roll currently leave me a comment with the link.  I'd love to actually add blogs to the list for more to read!

  1. Two things, a) Robert's blog ($30 A Week Habit) is still very much alive, and I don't know why it wouldn't be showing up for you. And b) as awkward as self promotion can be, sometimes it's key to survival -- so I'm gonna go ahead and mention that this humble commenter seems to be missing from your blogroll.

    1. Chris, it looks like you have the wrong URL for $30 a Week. It is http://30aweekhabit.blogspot.com/. You have robertsrandomthoughts-robert.blogspot.com.

    2. I will make the fixes, thanks all. That's a big part of the purging, fixing all my mistakes over the years, haha.

    3. True story, I'm one of the people who have benefited from Dr. Ogbeifun Love Spell. Dr. Ogbeifun appeared in the middle of my life when all hope was lost. I gave up on life and thought the best way to care for my broken heart. I have several experiences with my husband who have been working with me for many years. I made up my mind to continue with my suicide before a strange spirit. Afterwards, Dr. Ogbeifun Temple, I reluctantly looked for and found testimonials and recommendations for him via his email. He answered and asked me to go away and take my life; he said that my case is solvable after consulting his Oracle. Well, here I am today thanking Dr. Ogbeifun for saving my life and bringing back my Husband. We are so happy today and happier than we have ever been. He also helped me stop my cardiac arrest problem. I am grateful for being among the people sharing this testimony. 3. For some reason blogger only allows me to have 300 blogs on my reading list, so I have to do the "purge" every now and then to make room for new blogs.

  4. No idea if I'm in your blogroll but if I am I'd suggest you use https://njwv.wordpress.com/category/ephemera/collecting/ instead of the generic domain. Also it's a damn shame that "All Your Base Cards Belong to Us" isn't a working blog since it should be selling merch to all of us base card guys.
