Another Box of 2000 Pacific for Me!

One of the sets that I started building this year is the 2000 Pacific base set.  While I may not have much interest in a lot of current baseball card products, I am enjoying returning to some of the sets of my youth - and in the case of 2000 Pacific at least, even trying to finish collecting the full set!

I have been actively trading for missing cards from the set over on TCDB but I got kind of frustrated by the one or two at a time pace, not to mention that postage is expensive so it made it not overly worthwhile to trade that way for simple commons.  Thus, I decided to pick up a full box of 2000 Pacific (retail) and see if I could do better with my set build that way.

As it stands now, here's what I still need from the set:
2000 Pacific Wants:
Base:  9, 15, 22, 25, 31b, 34, 41, 42b, 56, 64, 72, 75, 78, 93, 98, 104, 105, 110, 112, 114, 122, 123b, 143, 161, 175, 178, 181, 195, 201, 206, 208, 212, 213, 222, 233, 252, 254, 281, 284b, 289, 294, 297, 298, 303, 304, 305, 311, 322, 327, 329, 343, 349, 356, 359, 365, 371, 373b, 374, 377, 377b, 383, 396, 403, 408, 421, 432, 436, 438, 440, 440b, 445
Note:  All base wants listed above are the regular base cards unless denoted with a "b", the cards with a "b" are the image variations.
Let's hope that the above list gets shortened quite a bit once I've fully ripped my box!

Of course, in addition to the base cards, there are inserts possible within the box.  In fact, there are a few cool Pacific twists in this set including the Pacific Christmas Ornament set which I always loved as a kid (I distinctly remember pulling one from a pack of cards and thinking it was super cool and unique)!

And now?  It's time to start ripping some packs!

Seeing as how the product is over two decades old, I won't bore everyone by writing about (and scanning) every card.  Instead, I plan to split the box up over a few different posts where I show off the highlights from a group of packs.  The box contains 24 packs so I think splitting them up into four (and thus four posts) of six packs each would be ideal.

2000 Pacific:
Packs 1 - 6:

The highlights for the first six packs out of the box include a single needed base card in Alfonso Soriano.

I'm not sure it's a great sign for the box that six packs in and I've only gained a single needed base card.  At least the other inserts from this group of packs kept things from being a total bummer!

I ended up pulling one of those awesome Christmas Ornament cards - Great Maddux on a die-cut Stocking.

Such a fun little gimmick!

And, I also pulled a pair of the Diamond Leaders (seeded 2:25 packs) including the Mariners leaders which feature Ken Griffey, Jr.

I like the Diamond Leaders cards a lot - not quite enough for me to try and collect the full set but I definitely do like the cards!

That does it for the first quarter of the box.  I'm hopeful that the remaining packs will hold a lot more needed base cards but at least I did well on the inserts thus far!  If nothing else, it's always fun to rip open a new box of cards!

  1. The first shows some evidence of bricking. Did you have much trouble with that?

    1. A little bit, but not terrible. I'm not overly fussy about the card condition on these anyhow!
