Throughout the years, Topps has produced many different mini sets for its Allen & Ginter brand - and I, as a card collecting sucker, have tried to build most of those mini sets. One such set is from the 2012 release of Allen & Ginter and it's called "Guys in Hats."
The basic gist of the set is easily discerned by the set's name...a bunch of cards (10 total) of dudes wearing various types of hats. It's a simple concept but it was made very difficult to collect thanks to the set being a "case hit" of sorts...so to get all 10 cards, you need 10 different case hits. Yikes!
Well, it took me over a decade to do it but I finally acquired the tenth and final card that I needed for my Guys in Hats set build:
That's The Garrison Cap and it's card 9 in the set. For those wondering, the full checklist looks like this:
- The Bowler
- The Boater
- The Fedora
- The Fez
- The Pith Helmet
- The Top Hat
- The Mortarboard
- The Flat Cap
- The Garrison Cap
- The Bicorne
It definitely feels great to finally remove this set from my want list...though I have to say that there is a second insert set from the same 2012 Ginter set that I'm still chasing called Fashionable Ladies (that's another ten-card set with each card being a case hit). I'm down to needing only two more cards from that set...so maybe within the next decade I'll finish that one off as well.
My Remaining 2012 Topps Allen & Ginter Wants:
Fashionable Ladies: 2, 10
Gold border minis: 64, 70
Fashionable Ladies: 2, 10
Gold border minis: 64, 70

Anytime you complete a case hit set build... it's worthy of a celebration. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see all of them, I don't know if I know what a single card looks like.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to do that soon!
DeleteAwesome! Congratulations on completing the case set.
