TCDB Monday: It's a Monster, Folks!

When a Group Break Comes Up Empty, You Go to eBay!

I recently busted a couple of boxes of 2023 Donruss as part of a group break but unfortunately for me, neither box yielded any Barry Larkin cards.  With that said, I had to right that wrong by heading over to eBay to grab one of the more common Larkin cards in the set (he's only in the inserts and relics portion of the set this year).

That's a Dominators insert card that is super shiny and serially-numbered out of 999.  I'm glad Larkin is featured in one of the shiny insert sets within the Donruss set as I usually like those cards but typically I don't have a reason to collect them.  This year, I do!  The downside to that, of course, is now there are a ton of parallels of this card that I also need to try and track down!

Side note:  The above card is only my seventh Barry Larkin card from 2023.  For reference, the year 2021 had 230 different Barry Larkin cards for me to track down (and remember, I only count cards with a stated print run of at least 25 copies)!  Could this be the beginning of a new card slowdown for the ex-Reds captain?!

  1. That image is almost an acceptable use of Donruss no logo. If his helmet was turned every so slightly it'd hide that this a Panini airbrush job. Should have pulled the ball...

  2. I've never done a break. I'll need to try and get in one of yours.

  3. If there is a slow down coming, I have a feeling that you'll still have plenty of his older cards to chase for many years to come.
