Finding Someone Selling Off Their Larkin Collection Full of Rare Cards...What Can I Afford?!

Back in October, I found someone on eBay unloading a ton of different Barry Larkin cards (mostly rare cards) that I needed for my own personal collection.  Unfortunately, I wasn't the only one interested in his cards and so the vast majority of the good ones went for money well outside my budget.  However, a few "cheapies" did slip the bidding cracks and I was able to add a trio of new-to-me cards to my Barry Larkin collection.

We'll start with this 1996 Pinnacle Starburst Artist Proof parallel:

Yeah, a parallel of a parallel...that's the world of mid-90s baseball card collecting.  The card is quite nice to behold - definitely a good showoff of Pinnacle's "dufex" technology.

Next, from 1999 is this Topps Gallery Player's Private Issue parallel:

The card is numbered 057/250 on the backside.  I still don't own a ton of serially-numbered Barry Larkin cards (especially from the late 90s) so anytime I am able to grab one I don't have I do try to pounce!

Finally, from 1998 comes another Topps Gallery Player's Private Issue parallel:

This one is also numbered out of 250 copies (mine is #116/250).  Unfortunately, the black border makes chipping show up more here than in the 1999 version but even so I'm glad to have this one in my collection as well.

Nothing overly Earth shattering in the above purchase but I'm still happy to have all three now safely tucked away in my Barry Larkin binders!

  1. Glad you were able to snag three toughies for your Larkin PC. I wonder if he was able to make that play (on that Topps Gallery card) or if the runner was safe.

  2. I read someone (else), somewhere, in recent months talking about competing with others for high-end Barry Larkin's as well. I knew that that you and Dennis collected him, but didn't realize that so may other people did as well, and seemingly well-moneyed people at that.
