Over on my Discord, I ran a free player break giveaway as a way of saying "thank you" to all of those who have made the migration over to my Discord channel. I now run all of my breaks on Discord (it keeps everything much nicer and tidier, both over there and here on the blog)!
Anyhow, as a way of saying "thanks" I grabbed a couple of boxes of 2021 Topps Clearly Authentic and then had people select players from the checklist. Last week, we ripped the two boxes. If you don't want spoilers, check out the video (Note: There was no sound for the first 5 minutes or so, the video should start when I was able to get the sound fixed on my end)!
So, what did we get? Each box promises exactly one encased signature card.
Box 1:
Zack McKinstry
Box 2:
Deivi Garcia
Oof, glad this was a free giveaway break...not a lot of star power there (and, of course, I pulled a Dodger auto). At least both of the autographed cards look quite nice in person despite the rather crappy way they scanned for me (my scanner doesn't like thick cases on cards)!
Note: Although neither of the above players were selected originally (shocker, I know), I ended up giving both cards away to the viewers who were with me on the live video stream. I think next time I do something like this I'll have a list ready of everyone who entered and then randomize that but I wasn't thinking that far ahead for this particular break!
This was the final group break for 2023, but I'll be jumping right back in once the calendar flips to 2024. I can tell you that I've already preordered two boxes of 2023 Stadium Club plus during the above video I showed off a bunch of other boxes that will be part of future group breaks.
Whether you are interested in group breaks or just trading (or even just talking baseball to other baseball fans away from toxic Twitter/X), I encourage you to join my Discord!

Yikes, what a terrible concept, Topps! As a Dodger fan I'm still appalled.
ReplyDeleteThe cards look very nice in hand (they scanned terribly though thanks to their plastic prisons). That being said, it's clear that I'm no gambler as I'd never buy this stuff for myself!
DeleteBrutal. I can't imagine spending, what, $150 or so on two boxes and ending up with that. I guess the big breakers can make it work because of the occasional big hit, but yuck.
DeleteVery kind of you to do a giveaway, even though the results were not great.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those products that I really like (autographs & acetate pair very nicely), but I don't think I'd ever buy boxes unless they were highly discounted. It's definitely one of those products I'd rather just go out and buy singles of.
