The Non-Reds Frankenset: Cards #271 - 306

I haven't touched my non-Reds Frankenset since June of last year.  I'd love to get this project back underway so what better time to start than right now?!

Cards 271 - 279:

Best card on the page:  The Justin Maxwell rookie where he's hitting a baseball in the not-yet-completed Washington Nationals stadium is an awesome shot (look at all the real dirt and people in hard hats in the background)!
Worst card on the page:  Probably either the Jonny Gomes or the Kevin Tapani.  The Tapani card just looks awkward, lots of weird angles going on with Kevin's body...and none of them look comfortable!
#'s missing still:  91, 190, 191, 193, 194, 195, 196, 196, 198, 199, 227, 279

Cards 280 - 288:

Best card on the page:  Now that I'm a father, I LOVE seeing cards like Dunston's with his son.  Super precious.  The Brian Jordan card from the 1998 Topps set is also a fairly iconic shot.  Speaking of the 1998 Topps set, that might be one of the most underrated Topps flagship sets in the 90s!
Worst card on the page:  The Pokey Reese card isn't terribly exciting, though I always liked Pokey so I don't mind him in the binder.  This is a solid page, especially for a page full of cards numbered in the upper 200s!
#'s missing still:  91, 190, 191, 193, 194, 195, 196, 196, 198, 199, 227, 279

Cards 289 - 297:

Best card on the page:   Another great father/son shot, this time with JT Snow.  I also like the shot of Ozzie going airborne and the Tucker card from 1993 Select (another set that I think is severely underrated from the 90s).
Worst card on the page:  The Rick Miller card is crap (and blurry to boot)!  It might almost be better to simply have an empty spot in the binder!
#'s missing still:  91, 190, 191, 193, 194, 195, 196, 196, 198, 199, 227, 279

Cards 298 - 306:

Best card on the page:   A play at the plate, Mike Trout making a mess in the dirt, or Bernie with seriously outdated technology, you can't go wrong with any of the cards in the top row.
Worst card on the page:  Probably the Ian Snell card but I do like cards featuring pitchers batting (especially bunting).
#'s missing still:  91, 190, 191, 193, 194, 195, 196, 196, 198, 199, 227, 279

That will do it for today's post.  Nice to have another 36 card numbers figured out and placed in the binder (well, technically 35 since I am missing one card from this batch).  Let's hope my next time working on my non-Reds Frankenset isn't another six months from now!

  1. Lots of great cards here! My favorites are the flying fielders - Walker, Smith, and Victorino!

    1. I thought the pages were surprisingly strong for cards numbered in the 200/300s!

  2. I actually like the Mark DeRosa with the football. The Larry Walker and the Dunston are cool too.

  3. Not a fan of them... but there are some solid Red Sox cards on these pages... including that Gomes.

  4. Is that a JT Snow onesie?
