Christmas in September: A Tribecards Giveaway (Part 2)

A few days couple of weeks ago, I showed off a bunch of Astros cards that David from Tribecards sent me as part of his Christmas giveaway.  Today, I'm back with the second team in the box - the Seattle Mariners.  As with the Astros cards, the Mariners were another team I indicated that I was interested in receiving cards from (probably thinking about possible Ken Griffey, Jr. cards for my collection).

Last time, I counted down my eight favorite Astros cards in the box so let's keep that theme going by counting my top eight Mariners cards in the box!

#8:  Harold Reynolds

A 1988 Fleer card starts off the countdown mostly because I love just how "pure 80s" this card screams to me.

#7:  Ken Griffey, Jr.

The 1992 Fleer set is one of those sets that you don't hear (or see) much of these days which I think is kind of a shame because the set has a lot of good qualities if you look at it closely.  Sure, the faded colored border is a dated look but the set features a lot of excellent photography (on both the front and back of the cards) plus the usual nice write-ups that early 90s Fleer was known for.  Plus, does Griffey ever have an ugly card?!

#6:  Juan Beniquez

I tend to define "vintage cards" as any cards that were released before I was born which means 1981 Topps is the newest set that fits that definition for me.  Love the old school Mariners logo and uniform that is shown off here.

#5:  Ken Griffey, Jr.

My hopes of landing some new-to-me Griffey, Jr. cards came true thanks to this Donruss VXP card.  Even with a kind of ugly card design overall, this particular Griffey shines proving (once again) that Ken can't make a bad card!

#4:  Ken Griffey, Jr.

Another Griffey - this time in (die-cut?) CD form!  This "multimedia CD-ROM" is made for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 and you'll need at least 8 MB RAM to run this bad boy.  I do wish I could see if this would work on my modern computer, but alas, modern computers don't even have CD-ROMs anymore!!

#3:  Kyle Lewis

Numbered out of 299 on the back, this Kyle Lewis autograph from the 2020 Topps set is a proper thing of beauty.  The only knock against it is that the autograph is on a sticker, but even so, it's still a great looking card!

#2:  Ichiro

You might think that a rookie autograph of Kyle Lewis would be hard to beat but not if you know me - I'll take a framed Allen & Ginter relic of a certified star any day of the week!

#1:  Ken Griffey, Jr.

Was there any mystery that Griffey wouldn't be the holder of the #1 spot on my countdown?!  This is one of those Project 2020 cards - and only my second such card in my personal collection (both of which were gifts, interestingly enough).  I can't say I followed the Project 2020 much but the concept was neat enough (though too pricy for my blood).  That said, if someone else (thanks David!) is going to send me a Project 2020 Griffey, I won't turn it down!

That's it for the Mariners in the box - certainly a great batch of cards (making the countdown was tough as there were probably 15-20 cards that could have been highlighted)!  With the Mariners cards now sorted, the only team remaining in the box from David is the Reds which I'll get to in my final "Christmas in September" post, though I can't promise that post will actually happen in the remaining week or so of September!
