The Non-Reds Frankenset: Cards #541 - 558

One of my biggest resolutions for 2024 that I'd love to complete is to clear off my card table, even if only for a day or two.  Many things are holding me back from doing that, one of which is my ongoing non-Reds Frankenset.  I have my Frankenset binder on the table and a box of cards representing possible inclusions in my set build.  The only way to get rid of the box and the binder is to finish my first pass of the Frankenset (I envision returning to the set every few years to build a better and better set using newly acquired cards).  Thus, for the second time in less than a week, I'm going to carve out some time to build a few more pages for my set!

Cards 541 - 549:

Best card on the page:  This page has a nice mix of older cards and newer cards but I think my favorite is the Bo Jackson card with him sporting the baby blue Royals' uniform.  I also like the Dennis Martinez card of him tossing the rosin bag, a common thing for pitchers to do during a game but something that rarely makes it onto a baseball card!

Worst card on the page:  The Chad Gaudin card is ostensibly a bad card, but it's so bad that it somehow ends up being great in an ironic kind of way.

#'s missing still:  91, 190, 191, 193, 194, 195, 196, 196, 198, 199, 227, 279, 347, 353, 368, 369, 373, 375, 399, 401, 406, 415, 417, 436, 445, 459, 463, 465, 466, 471, 473, 476, 485, 488, 489, 490, 491, 493, 496, 497, 498, 499, 506, 507, 511, 512, 516, 522, 523, 533, 536, 538, 541, 547

Cards 550 - 558:

Best card on the page:
The Todd Jones is an awesome posed shot while the John Mabry is a great candid shot.  Take your pick between those two cards!

Worst card on the page:  The Darnell Coles card isn't great, though I do appreciate any card showing the old-school Mariners' logo with the trident.

#'s missing still:  91, 190, 191, 193, 194, 195, 196, 196, 198, 199, 227, 279, 347, 353, 368, 369, 373, 375, 399, 401, 406, 415, 417, 436, 445, 459, 463, 465, 466, 471, 473, 476, 485, 488, 489, 490, 491, 493, 496, 497, 498, 499, 506, 507, 511, 512, 516, 522, 523, 533, 536, 538, 541, 547, 553

As you can see from the past few pages in my non-Reds Frankenset, the choices for cards get slimmer and slimmer the higher the card numbers.  I think I've decided that I'm going to call this set complete when I get to card #603 (to keep it having full binder pages).  I was originally going to go to #792 but I've decided that the final ~200 cards won't be interesting enough as a whole to warrant building that portion of the set.

Therefore, with a new goal of "only" 603 cards in my non-Reds Frankenset, I'm nearly complete with the project - and with that, I'll have a major portion of my card table cleared off before I know it.  A win-win!

  1. Can't argue with your two favorites, although I do like the Kendall as well!
