Box #8 from my Case of 2024 Allen & Ginter (The One with Two Framed Hits!)

We've made it to the final third of my case of 2024 Topps Allen & Ginter.  What other goodies still remain to be found?  I can't wait to see so let's get going!

Box 8:

As usual, I'll start with the box topper:

Yep, another one of the standard baseball player toppers.  I don't mind these cards I guess but I also can't say I'm overly excited by them.  Will I end up trying to complete the full set?  Who knows, I keep considering collecting more and more of this year's Ginter set so I wouldn't put anything past me right now.

Moving on to the packs, we'll start with our full-sized parallels of note:

This box was heavy on Padres with two Chrome Friars showing up out of the pack.  The Foil Filagree is of Pete Steinkopf from the *checks back of card* punk band Bouncing Souls.  I've never heard of Bouncing Souls which shows my age more than I care to admit. I dunno.  Looking at the band on Wikipedia, I learned that the group had been together since 1989.  I'd love to know why Topps decided that including the guitarist of a relatively unknown band made sense as an inclusion in this year's A&G set.  Heck, over on Spotify the Bouncing Souls most popular song "True Believers" only has a little over 27 million plays.  Sure, that's a big number but way newer acts have much larger numbers (Noah Kahan, for example, has over 1.2 billion plays of his most popular song).  Or, sticking with bands perhaps more directly comparable to the Bouncing Souls, the punk rock band Sum 41 has over 200 million plays for each of their top five songs on Spotify.

Next, the highlight of Ginter for me in general: The minis!

My box gave me five more mini inserts which is great to go along with a Derek Jeter black bordered mini (always good for trade bait) and a Chrome mini of Julio Rodriguez.  I'm thinking of going after this year's Chrome mini set now so getting the first card in that set is also appreciated!

Finally, the hits:

Box #8 delivered here as well with two of the three hits being of the framed variety (my preference, for sure)!  No complaints about the Mike Schmidt relic, it's a good-looking card!  I don't know much about Leiter's career, but a quick glance at eBay shows me that people are buying his autographs which I suppose is a good sign for him!

That does it for the eighth box out of the case.  As with most of the other boxes, this was a solid box of cards.  I definitely feel like I overpaid for my case of Ginter overall BUT I will admit that almost every box that I've opened from my case has been a fun rip and felt interesting throughout.  I guess that's what keeps me coming back to Ginter year after year, even if Topps is doing their darndest to price the brand out of your typical set collector's financial ability!

  1. I find it amusing that the image for North Dakota is a pretty generic looking highway. "North Dakota...um, people drive in that state, I guess."

  2. The Schmidt relic is a nice pull. Congratulations.

  3. Love the look of the green framed relic. I only got one mountain mini in my three boxes. Thought they might be scarce. I want to say there are more than one member of Bouncing Souls in the set. (Never heard of them either). Let me know if you'd like to unload your silver singles...
