Happy Monday, everyone! Today marks the official start of my winter break so it's a great Monday in my book! It's also a great day to show off some recent TCDB trades from last week so let's get right to it.
We'll start with a package from user lmcgown:
As you probably expected, I'm still on the hunt for tons of Allen & Ginter cards from this year's set. I was certainly happy to swing a deal to get four needed minis in a single swoop including two of the Rookie Design Variations. Having both Chourio and Soderstrom in my collection means I'm down to needing only one more of the retail-only Rookie Design Variations (#3: Pete Crow-Armstrong). I'm happy to report that I have all the big names in the set, hopefully getting Mr. Crow-Armstrong won't be too tough of a task in the next week or two*. I'd love to actually finish something from this year's Ginter set before the calendar flips to 2025!
*Update: From the time I wrote this post until now, I was able to secure a trade for Crow-Armstrong's Rookie Design Variation card. Now, I wait until it arrives and then I'll be able to finally knock an insert set off of my 2024 A&G want list!
Alright, moving along with the mail my next package was from user rustypetty:
A nice Chrome Refractor plus four more mini cards for my various 2024 A&G set builds. I have a long ways to go yet on the Chrome Refractor and Mini Chrome sets but the rest of the mini insert sets are all nearing completion fairly rapidly. Always nice to get five needed cards in a single swoop!
My next trade was with user edsekula:
This one also featured a 2024 A&G card but perhaps more importantly for me at this point in time, I was able to grab one of the last few 2024 Topps Series 2 Silve Pack Chrome cards that I needed. I guess I have a thing for Chrome insert sets!
Next, I have a package from user bravefan1:
This particular trade was an eventful one because the first envelope of cards that arrived was a disaster. The envelope must have gotten folded in half at some point in transit because the Chrome Refractor card was completely destroyed. In addition, all of the minis had a bend to them with both the Chrome mini and the Ballpark Bites mini suffering actual creases. The rest of the cards had a slight bend to them but I think they'll eventually straighten out alright. Interestingly enough, on my end I actually mailed bravefan1 the wrong card (a base card rather than the agree upon parallel) so we both had issues to sort out. Long story short, I mailed him the correct parallel and he ended up buying and then mailing me replacements for the three cards that were totally destroyed from the first package. In the end, all's well that ends well!
I will say it did feel wrong to throw away Allen & Ginter cards but the three cards were damaged too badly for me to think anyone would ever want them so off to the trash they went.
Finally, we close out this past week's worth of mail with a large padded envelope from user Arkansas Traveler. This trade was a big one, I ended up acquiring 26 cards and mailing out 36 cards. While most of what I got was 2024 Allen & Ginter stuff, I was able to grab a few 1997 Metal Universe cards for that set build:
A fair number of big names in that particular group of cards. I'm now down to needing about 75 out of the 250 cards from the set, not bad considering I only decided to collect the set sometime this summer and I've only done so via trading!
As I said already, I also was able to get a bunch of needed Allen & Ginter cards including a small pile of Chrome Refractors:
I also nabbed a bunch of needed minis:
That's a great trade to end the week on - lots of stuff I needed and I was able to clear out even more cards to help me with storage issues on my end!
Phew, that was a busy week of incoming trades! I do expect this week (and especially next week) to be slow/nonexistent when it comes to incoming trades thanks to the holidays. However, hopefully, once the New Year gets here, trading will pick back up again. It better, I still have an awful lot of 2024 Alllen & Ginter to track down!
