Each year, I tend to make a list of blog resolutions that (hopefully) guide me for the upcoming year of collecting. In 2024, I made a list of five resolutions, and with the year now over, let's see how well I did doing what I said I'd do.
#1: The Want List
I'm constantly trying to whittle down my want list and in 2024 I began the year with 28 different sets having at least one card on my want list. By the end of the year, I had 34 different sets on my want list which means I actually increased the number of sets I'm trying to collect by six. Obviously, that's not great! However, that number is a bit misleading since nine of those sets are from 2024 Allen & Ginter which was only recently released. If I don't count 2024 A&G stuff, then my want list went from 28 sets to 25 sets which I consider a win since that was the exact number I was shooting for back at the start of 2024!
#2: The Great Reorganization
My goal here had four components:
- Clean off my TV stand that is full of cards
- Clean off the table behind my computer that is full of cards
- Get my 2022 Barry Larkin cards scanned and updated
- Figure out what to do with some unwanted sets
Of those four goals, I can say that I (briefly) completed goal #2 though today that same table is full of cards once again. I made some solid progress on goal #1 but alas, I failed at completing cleaning off the TV stand. I also failed to scan and update all of my 2022 Larkin cards (I think I got about three-quarters of the way through them). Finally, I did sell a couple of unwanted sets but I'm still facing a storage crunch now that I've added multiple set binders to my shelves this past year!
Overall, I can't say I did great on the Great Reorganization resolution. The only silver lining is that I did make progress (however slight) on most of the subgoals.
#3: Reading
I set a goal of reading five books in 2024 and failed. I only read two. I enjoy reading but I have so many hobbies that I often feel that I don't have the time or inclination to read when there are so many other things I could be doing. That all said, I did get a couple of books for Christmas that I want to read so perhaps 2025 will see me sitting and reading more often!
#4: Disc Golf
My goal was to slowly improve my game by learning to throw 300 feet from the tee box and finish at least one round at even par. I did both of those things in 2024 though I didn't get to play as much overall as I'd like (and I doubt I'd hit 300 feet right now if I were to throw in the cold and wind)!
#5: My LEGO Blog
I set a goal of posting three times a month over on Playing with Bricks for a total of 36 posts for the year. In the end, I fell short by a bit (only 29 posts) but I did see blog traffic increase which does make me want to keep the LEGO blog going for another year!
Overall, it wasn't my best year in terms of actually doing what I said I'd do! I'd give myself the following grades:
- Want List: A
- Great Reorganization: D-
- Reading: F
- Disc Golf: B
- LEGO Blog: C+
Not the best GPA ever but at least there was one "A" grade on the list. I do plan to create new resolutions for 2025 and once I do so, I'll get those listed on the blog so that you can all hold me accountable for what I say I'll do this year. Hopefully, 2025 will go better than 2024 did!
