My 1888 Allen & Ginter City Flags set is nearing completion - and that's a sentence that still shocks me that I'm able to write in 2025! Recently, I grabbed an eBay lot of two more City Flags cards though I only needed one of the two for my collection (Catalonia). Here's what I acquired:
It's surreal to think that I now have a duplicate card from the 1800s!
Both cards are in pretty good shape considering they are well over 100 years old now! The Amiens card ended up being an upgrade to the version of the card that was previously in the binder while the Catalonia filled in the last empty spot on the first page of the set! It worked out for me that both cards had a use - and even better, I was able to get both cards for less than the price of a modern blaster (including shipping)!
At this point in time, I'm now down to needing only four more City Flags cards from the set:
- Nice
- Rotterdam
- Rouen
- Saint-Etienne
Will I ever finish off this set? It seemed like a pipe dream when I started but now I'm so close I can nearly taste the finish line (it tastes of very old cardboard, I'm guessing).
