Today marks my return to the classroom after a long holiday break. It's always tough to go back to work after a vacation but I find heading back in the middle of cold, dark January to be much easier than heading back in hot, sunny August for the start of a new school year!
One thing that is always good, no matter the time of year, is baseball cards in the mail and this past week didn't disappoint on that front. I received several TCDB mailings so let's jump right in starting with a PWE from user timriess:
That's a 2024 Allen & Ginter Chrome Refractor of Johan Rojas. I'm still plugging away at the 100-card Refractor set so any help I can get via trading is appreciated!
Next, we stick with 2024 Allen & Ginter except this time it was a trade for a bunch of needed mini cards courtesy of user Ryegram:
Three more mini Chrome cards (that's also a 100-card set that's proving to be a bit easier to trade for as compared to the Chrome Refractor cards). In addition, three assorted mini insert cards from 2024 Allen & Ginter. I'm nearly done with the Ballpark Bites set, however, I still have a ways to go on both the US States and the World Flags sets.
My next trade was with iceman2081 and this one didn't involve 2024 Allen & Ginter:
While most of my trading has involved Ginter lately, I am still working on a few other set including the 1997 Metal set. I was happy to be able to swing a deal for the Ken Griffey, Jr. card, in particular, as the stars are always harder to trade for it seems! The only thing that is a bummer about the Metal set is how poorly the cards scan compared to how they look in hand.
Next up, from user jimham89 comes more 2024 Allen & Ginter goodies:
Three more mini inserts including a card celebrating corn dogs plus two more US State cards.
Finally, we end with a swap with user Mehurley86:
Even though this trade only netted me one card, it might go down as my favorite trade of the week simply because it finishes off a set from my want list!
All things considered, it was a great week of trading on TCDB! I do imagine that things will slow down (both because I'll be busier with work but also because people are moving on from A&G which means finding cards that I still need will continue to get harder and harder). No matter, I'm still quite pleased with the past week and I'd say I'm ready to tackle a new semester! Have a good week, everyone!

Picking between the end of the summer break and the end of the holiday break is much more challenging for me, because there's at least a little bit of curiosity about my new group of students at the end of summer. But there's absolutely nothing great about going back after two weeks. That being said... it's never easy to get back into the swing of things after being off for a month or longer. Like I said... tough call. Have a great semester with your classes. This is my final week with my first semester kids. On Tuesday, I get my new group.
