Barry Larkin
Year: 1996
Brand: King-B Discs
Card number: 15
The early-to-mid-90s were a hotbed of oddball baseball cards and perhaps no card set was quite as odd as the King-B Discs. This particular set featured a checklist of 24 players with each card being a 2 3/8" diameter disc. The discs were only available with the purchase of specially marked packages of King B Jerky Stuff beef jerky. Unlike a lot of oddball cards, the King-B discs seem to have maintained a small level of monetary value, at least according to COMC.
Looking at the Larkin disc specifically, I like the front photo (even if the logos have been airbrushed away). The back of the disc is also quite nice with some statistics, player vitals, and the King-B logo all present without the disc back feeling too cramped. The stars around the edge even work well and I enjoy the tagline "quality meat snacks." All things considered, I think this is a solid "oddball" release and one that I can see holding up over time in terms of design and desirability.
