TCDB Monday!

We've made it through another week of February, the month is over halfway completed and that's cause for celebration if you ask me!  What's the best way to celebrate?  I'd wager opening up my mailbox and finding baseball cards is pretty high up on the list of possibilities.

With that out of the way, let's see what showed up last week from TCDB trades beginning with a PWE from user Dmurry:

This swap included ten needed base cards from the 1998 Collector's Choice set plus a Pokemon card from this year's McDonald's Happy Meals.  My son has gotten into Pokemon big time, so he and I have been attempting to build two copies of the Pokemon set from Happy Meals.  Of course, we also try not to eat a lot of McDonald's...so I've resorted to trading for the missing pocket monsters over on TCDB!

At this point, I'm down to needing only #11 (Roaring Moon) and #12 (Dragonite) for my set.  If I'm not mistaken, my son only needs #12 (Dragonite) to complete his set, but I should probably double-check his pile of cards to make sure that what he told me is correct.

Next up, from user gawinniwag comes a 2024 Allen & Ginter Chrome Refractor of Pete Alonso.

This particular trade took quite some time to come to fruition seeing as how I was sent the wrong card at first (I was sent the Silver Portrait version of Alonso's card).  Luckily, it was an honest mistake and gawinniwag sent the correct card along without much delay.

My next trade was the second of the week that started with me receiving the wrong cards.  This time, it was with user SuperMegaBaseball:

SuperMegaBaseball originally sent me the McCutchen Chrome card, then he realized his mistake was in his listing (he didn't actually have the Chrome Refractor).  So, to his credit, he went on eBay and purchased the McCutchen Chrome Refractor and had the seller ship directly to me.  Unfortunately, the seller then made an error and shipped me the McCutchen Silver Portrait version instead.  After a bit more back and forth, the seller realized his (or her?) error and finally shipped me the correct version of the card!  It was a lot of work to track down a pair of Chrome Refractors last week, I can tell you that!  Also, not to be overlooked in the trade with SuperMegaBaseball was me inching a step closer to completing the 50 States mini set from last year's Allen & Ginter.  I love getting needed mini cards in the mail (and they are much harder to get confused since they don't have all sorts of shiny parallels)!

Let's stick with the Chrome Refractors as we look at another trade, this time one that went smoothly on the first attempt thanks to user marzcards.

I was able to nab two more needed shiny cards for my set build.  I'm still quite a ways off from finishing the full 100-card Refractor set but if I can get two cards in a single trade, that gives me another 2% of the set in a single envelope!  #math

The next envelope to show up last week was from user stvargo.  This one didn't hold any Allen & Ginter but it did contain some needed cards from the 1990s!

Yep, three more 1997 Metal Universe cards for my set build.  I've made a lot of progress on this particular set over the past six months or so and I have hope that I'll be able to land the final 37 cards that I still need without too much hassle.  As for the three cards I got, my favorite has to be the Brant Brown card where he's depicted as using his glove to steal dinosaur eggs while a giant T-Rex stands in the background.  It's wonderfully goofy.

My next package was also full of cards from the 90s, though this time they belong to the 1998 Collector's Choice Stick'Ums set:

The two stickers came courtesy of user BigRobot80 and they are much appreciated for my set build.  At this point, I have 27 of the 30 Stick'Um cards in hand with the other three about to shown off...

That's right, my final trade from last week was the one that finished off my 1998 Collector's Choice Stick'Ums set.  The last three stickers came courtesy of user pinfit:

Of course, Derek Jeter would be one of the last stickers I needed to acquire.  The only real surprise here is that Ken Griffey, Jr. wasn't one of the other "final three" that I needed.

Phew!  That was a busy week of trading!  I love going out to my mailbox and finding envelopes of cards so this past week was a good one on that front.  I'm also super happy to have completed the 1998 Collector's Choice Stick'Ums set.  As always, if you have anything I might be looking for, I'd love to trade - leave a message and we can work something out hopefully!
