About a week or so ago, I got a hit on one of my saved eBay searches "Larkin Stained Glass." I've been trying to acquire a Barry Larkin stained glass mini from Allen & Ginter for many years now but I've yet to get in on one for a reasonable price. When I clicked on the latest hit from the search, I was expecting another Allen & Ginter card but instead, I was greeted with a card from the Historic Autograph & Card Co.
I had never heard of that company, but the Larkin card in the auction looked neat and the price was right so I decided to give it a try. A few days later, this beautiful stained glass card showed up in my mailbox:
The Larkin is numbered out of only 25 copies on the backside of the card. The set is from last year and is listed over on TCDB which is good enough for me to include this one in my official Barry Larkin collection binder!
The Barry Larkin card was actually paired with a second Stained Glass card (also numbered out of only 25 copies):
That's Chipper Jones and it too is a nice looking card! The stained glass part is, in fact, see-through, and when you hold the cards up to the light the stained glass effect is lovely. This was a fun surprise, just when you think you know about all of the types of cards being produced in 2024, a new-to-me Barry Larkin card shows up and instantly becomes one of my favorites. As for the Chipper, it won't be staying in my collection - perhaps I'll swap it for something on TCDB, or else I'll probably throw it back on eBay to recoup some of my investment.

Nice looking cards! I thought Chipper was right handed though, that looks like a pitcher.
ReplyDeleteStained glass cards are very nice in hand, and in the binder.
ReplyDeleteNever seen or heard of these before. The fact that they're see-through makes these super cool.
