Barry Larkin
Year: 1996
Brand: Leaf
Parallel: Bronze Press Proof
Card number: 122
Leaf produced three tiers of Press Proof parallels in 1996 (Bronze, Silver, and Gold). Although not serially numbered, the stated print run for the Bronze version was 2000 copies (compared to 1000 copies of the Silver and only 500 copies of the Gold versions).
I'm record for saying that I like a lot of what Leaf did with their insert sets in 1996, but unfortunately, the same cannot be said for their base set and parallels. I find it too difficult to tell the Bronze parallels apart and if it's that hard, then it's a bad parallel in my eyes. Furthermore, the card design didn't need any more shiny foil and that's exactly what the Press Proof parallels add, so again, it's a swing and a miss for me.
That said, perhaps I'll change my tune when/if I ever track down the Silver and Gold Press Proof parallels, perhaps those are a bit more striking in person and worth collecting?!

Is he carrying his batting glove on the base paths? I wonder what the story is behind that. Best of luck tracking down the silver and gold parallels.
ReplyDeleteI always thought runners did that to try and keep them from jamming their own fingers while sliding (this would be before those giant "oven mitts" were allowed).
