Happy Monday, everyone! As usual, the start of the week means it is time to dip back into the mailbag to see what I was able to acquire in the past seven days over on TCDB.
Let's jump right in, beginning with a PWE from user CardsInTheBasement:
I'm always happy to be able to acquire new-to-me Barry Larkin cards. It's even better when I can swing a trade for a serial-numbered Larkin, which is exactly what I was able to do in this particular swap. The Larkin is from the 2005 Playoff Prestige set, and it's from the Xtra Bases Red parallel set #/150 on the backside of the card. I also don't want to overlook the Alex Ochoa '97 Metal Universe card since that's one of the final cards I need for my set build!
Next, from user BobObert comes another new-to-me Larkin card:
That's a 1993 Sports Collectors Digest Sports Card Pocket Price Guide card of Barry Larkin. On the back, it lists his prices for three of his rookie cards:
- 1987 Fleer $7
- 1987 Topps $1
- 1987 Donruss $3
Plus his 1988 Score card (only $0.40). It's funny that Larkin's cards were probably worth more in 1993 than they are today (and now Larkin is a Hall of Famer...of course, his cards are also smack dab in the "overproduced era" so it all evens out). Nonetheless, the card is certainly a fun oddball for my collection!
Next up, from user mastodon comes more oddball Barry Larkin cards:
Those are playing cards from the 2006 and 2013 Hero Decks Cincinnati Reds Baseball Heroes Playing Cards (that name really rolls off the tongue, doesn't it)?! It's interesting that Barry got the 6 of Hearts in both sets. I have no idea how (or why) certain players got certain numbers or suits.
The 2013 card is the one with a small write-up on it, for those who might be wondering.
Finally, from user eggbert60 comes some new shiny cards for me:
Between the regular Silver Pack Chrome cards and the 1990 All-Star cards, I have another 100 shiny specimens to try and track down from 2025 Topps Series 2. I do hope to acquire most of the cards via trade, so getting three at once is a nice start to the collection!
That does it for the past week on TCDB. Overall, it was a solid week filled with a bunch of nice Barry Larkin cards, plus a few more modern cards and a lone Metal Universe from the 90s. Hopefully, the next few weeks' worth of mailbags will continue the trends set by the past week!
