Back in early June, I placed a single order over on Sportlots. I hadn't used (or even looked at) Sportlots for quite some time, but for whatever reason, I found myself browsing the site looking to see if I could finish off any of my sets. As luck would have it, I did find a seller who had a single card that I needed to complete one of my sets that's been on my want list for over a decade!
The card in question?
That's a Jacoby Ellsbury "In Action" insert from the 2012 Topps Archives set. This is a set that I've been plugging away at for a long, long time. I'm pleased to say that it's now officially complete. In fact, the In Action set is the tenth different set that I've completed thus far in 2025!
Of course, buying a single card is often not worth the shipping, so I had to see if the same seller had anything else that I could use. While I wasn't able to make any more set progress, I was able to grab a pair of needed Barry Larkin cards:
That's a 2021 Topps Chrome insert and a 2024 Topps relic (black parallel #/199). I must say, both of the Larkin cards are gorgeous in their own ways. The black bordered relic, in particular, looks striking with the Reds' colors.
With such a successful purchase, I can't help but think that I ought to be using Sportlots a lot more often than I am currently. After all, I have plenty of other sets that have been languishing on my want list for years that could use some assistance!

As the search tools on their site keep improving it has really become a good place to get sets closed out at decent prices. Nice add-ons to your order!
ReplyDeleteGreat action shot on that Ellsbury card!
ReplyDeleteI just placed two big orders (involving three or four vendors) to put a dent in a few of my set builds. My issue is time and paying 20¢ for commons on newer sets. But sometimes I've gotta open up the wallet if I want to cross off some sets :D
