We are now into the heart of September, but my heart is still in August (you know, back when I wasn't going to work every day)! Let's keep up the summer vibes and check out the games that I was able to play in person throughout August 2025.
The month of August saw me play several favorites, but not all that many truly new-to-me games. In fact, only two games from the above 16 were new for yours truly.
Circle the Wagons: This is another 18-card Button Shy game. Unlike a lot of my Button Shy games, this one is only for two players. It's definitely got Naturopolis or Sprawlopolis vibes, but with a fun rondel system that only works with two players.
Assault on Doomrock: For as much as I liked Circle the Wagons, Assault on Doomrock was equally disappointing. This was a Kickstarter purchase I made a long time ago, and unfortunately, the wait to play the game wasn't worth it. There's a lot of cool stuff in the box, but the final package simply didn't click for my playgroup.
On the bright side, I did get some other favorites back to the table in quite some time. In particular, Ark Nova - a game that I'm playing a LOT over on Board Game Arena, but not one that I get to play in person very often. I'm also still enjoying Vantage, though the long play time makes it tough to get to the table now that work has begun back up again.
What will September bring to the table? I'm not sure, but I do know it'll be tough to match the 66 total plays from August (spread across 16 different game titles). Amazingly, August had about half of the plays as I completed in July (119 plays that month)! I guess if that pattern holds, I should be happy if I top 35 plays or so in September!
