Board Game Friday (on a Tuesday): October and November 2025 Plays

In looking back through my blog archives, I realized that I never posted my (in-person) board game plays from October and November.  Rather than skip the two months of data, I figure why not squeeze in a board game post on a Tuesday evening?!

October 2025:

In October, I played a total of 93 games spread across 31 different titles.

Small card games were the hits for October, no real surprise since October is smack dab in the middle of the teaching semester (so who has time for lots of longer games)!?  New games for the month included:

  • Shallow Regrets:  A Button Shy wallet game that my son adores (and I like it too).
  • Skulls of Sedlec:  Another Button Shy wallet game, a fun puzzle game with drafting for two players.
  • Dwar7s Spring:  A solid game from the Dwar7s series, I now own Fall, Winter, and Spring!
  • The Adventures of Robin Hood:  A disappointing cooperative game that immediately went on to my trade list at the conclusion of the game day.
  • Horizons of Spirit Island:  I love Spirit Island.  This is a slightly easier version meant for two players, still great.
  • Foundations of Metropolis:  More fun than I was expecting!
  • Valley of the Kings:  Premium Edition:  A deckbuilder with an Egyptian theme that I enjoyed a lot.
  • Vegas Strip:  A small box game from Allplay.  A decent game, I need a few more plays to figure out how I feel about it.

November 2025:

In November, I upped my total plays to 101 games, but those 101 plays were spread across only 24 different titles.

As you can see, November was the month when my son really got bitten by the Magic: the Gathering bug!  We knocked out 42 plays of that game alone in November.  As for new games, I played 5 new-to-me games in November:

The Daily Weather:  I was a playtester for this Button Shy wallet game.  This is one I'm looking forward to getting a real copy of once it is released in 2026.
Holotype:  Mesozoic North America:  A game all about researching dinosaurs.  It's a family-weight worker placement game with nice cards and some dice rolling.
Altay:  Dawn of Civilization:  A fun little deck builder/troops on a map game with a (very loose) civilization theme.
Formaggio:  The Italian cheese follow-up to the French cheese-themed Fromage.
Five Crowns:  I had vague memories of playing this game many, many years ago and disliking it.  However, I'm now thinking I played some other (perhaps similar) game.  Five Crowns was good fun for a larger crowd.

As you can see, a solid couple of months of boardgaming fun!  I hope to get back on track and start posting my monthly plays on a more regular basis, starting in January with my December plays.
