Each year around this time, I like to go over my previous year's Resolutions and then set new ones for the upcoming year. Every year except this year, because apparently I never wrote any New Year's Resolutions for 2025! Whoops. Anyhow, with nothing to go over, I can't be sad that I didn't accomplish a specific thing. With that out of the way, let's write some new resolutions for 2026.
#1. The Want List
This is a perennial resolution; I want to keep reducing the total number of sets on my want list. There was a time, not all that long ago, that my want list had over 100 sets on it. As of today, I'm down to exactly 30 sets on my want list. In 2025, I added 10 different sets to my want list, but I was able to complete 15 sets (giving me a net gain of 5 sets removed from the want list). I'm going to try to make it another net gain of five sets removed for 2026, meaning my first New Year's Resolution is: Have 25 or fewer sets on my want list.
#2: The Great Reorganization
Another resolution that keeps coming back year after year, with only marginal progress! I know I'll probably never have my collection fully organized, but I think if I set some concrete goals, then I'll have a fighting chance to make solid progress in 2026. Here we go:
- Update my Barry Larkin Collection binder (and TCDB) through 2024.
- Clean off the cards on my TV stand.
- Get all of my trade bait to fit back into four of my "cubes" on my shelf.
- Clean off all the cards on the table that is behind my desk.
#3: Reading
I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't finish a single novel or book (not work-related) in 2025. Oh sure, I've read a ton of books to my son, but I didn't do much in the way of personal reading last year. This year, I hope to get back to reading more books, so let's set a goal of: Read at least 5 books for fun/pleasure.
#4. My LEGO blog
Loyal readers probably know that I also write a LEGO blog here. I want to keep that blog going in 2026, even though readership over there is greatly dwarfed by readership here. Who knows, maybe if I put forth more consistent content, I'll be able to grow that blog as well in 2026. My goal will be to publish at least 36 posts in 2026.
I think that will do it for this year's blog resolutions! While only four goals may seem easy, I think there's some serious work to be done on my end if I'm to actually succeed in completing all four resolutions!
Now, it's your turn. What are some of your resolutions (blogging-related or not) for 2026? I'd love to hear them, sound off in the comments!

Best of luck with the books. I've failed to reach the number I set for myself for about ten years in a row (though I was very close in 2024).
ReplyDeleteMy problem (excuse?) is that I read so much for work, preparing classes, etc., that the last thing I feel like doing in my downtime is reading more books!
DeleteGood, good luck with the resolutions and goals. Do you find that the TCDB doesn't acknowledge many or any Larkin cards? It's like this for me with my Strawberry collection. Which makes reconciliation difficult from time to time. How about a "Shame" photograph of the area you want to clear up? Take a picture, print it out, put it up somewhere, and shame yourself into looking at it?
ReplyDeleteThe photograph idea is a good one, maybe that would be the motivation I need. Of course, I walk by the TV stand every day and it doesn't seem to make a difference!
DeleteMy “big goal” for 2025 has rolled over into 2026, retire. My boss keeps finding things that he says I should do before I retire. To be fair, I’m only going in the office for 2-3 hours every day, but it’s still not retirement. (It does allow me to pursue and purchase my latest card obsession: the 2000 Fleer (Baseball) Greats of the Game autograph inserts. Guilt free. A portion of every paycheck for the last few months has gone towards one of the SP autos.)
ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago I started purchasing, and putting on my Christmas list, presidential biographies. My retirement/ new year resolution is to read more and specifically read both my Washington and Adams biographies.
Getting my cards and my card collection organized has been a goal for way too long. I’ve always told my wife that I’ll get to it in retirement. Maybe that will happen…
Good luck with your resolutions! Please keep us posted with your progress.
The Greats of the Game autograph set sounds like a fun chase, and I'll bet the finished project will be amazing! I think if I have to uphold a promise to be fully organized when I retire, I may never end up being able to retire.
DeleteBest of luck on your 2026 resolutions! I'm really bad when it comes to reading books, but I actually read two in 2025.
