Board Game Friday: January 2026 Plays

We've made it past the halfway mark of February, thank goodness!  Heck, we even had a couple of days with temperatures above freezing (and rain, which helped to finally melt off a lot of the snow).  There's hope yet for spring!

January, however, was a cold and terrible month.  The one bright note is that cold and dreary weather makes it even easier to stay inside and play board games.  That's exactly what I did in January:

In total, I played 80 games spread across 23 different titles.  Of those, I played eight new-to-me games:

Railroad Tiles:  A game by the folks that published Railroad Ink, I think I like the tile version even better!  My wife and son both loved this game, and we played after dinner a lot in January!

Jurassic World:  The Legacy of Isla Nublar:  A fun cooperative legacy game.  My son and I played through the first five or so scenarios.  The biggest downside to the game is the size of the table you need, and the rules bloat that seems to get worse with every mission.

Pizza Pizza Yum Yum:  A silly cooperative 18-card game.  This is a great "right before bedtime" game for my son to play with me.

Adventurous:  Another 18-card wallet game from Button Shy.  This is a solo game where you try to chart a course through the sea for your ship while taking care of several objectives.

Holotype:  Mesozoic Europe:  The follow-up game to Holotype: Mesozoic North America.  This is an improved version of North America, but you still need the North America game for some of the components (dice, etc.).

Ticket to Ride:  Map Collection: Volume 5 United Kingdom & Pennsylvania:  Another Ticket to Ride map variation.  We haven't tried the UK side yet, but the Pennsylvania side is fun (especially since we live in PA).

Apropos of Movies & Apropos of Board Games:  Super fast cooperative games, one requires you know a lot about movies (which I don't), and the other requires you know a lot about board games (which I'm better at, though still not great).

Overall, January's weather might have sucked, but the board game playing was excellent!  Unfortunately, don't expect to see a repeat of those lofty numbers in February, even though the weather has (mostly) continued to suck, I've been incredibly busy with work and lesson planning!
