How Often Do You See "Plumber's Butt" on a Baseball Card?

Note:  My latest group break is now LIVE!  Five different boxes full of fun stuff (Topps Tek, Stadium Club, Fleer Flair, Stadium Club Chrome, and Topps Gallery).  Don't miss out - sign up here!

-------

When I received my five boxes of baseball cards for Christmas, I was stoked.  I also knew that each box would make for some good blog fodder - and probably provide me with some trade bait.  Though all of that has been true, the one thing I wasn't sure about would be if other people would care as much about older boxes of cards as I do.  I have to admit - I've been pleasantly surprised at just how interested many of you are in the older stuff.  It actually makes me want to go out and get even more older boxes just to open on the blog (all for your reading enjoyment of course...not for my collection or anything...*end sarcasm*).

I do still have two more unopened Christmas boxes waiting (though one is 2013 Topps Chrome and not really "old" at all).  I'll get to those in due time (can you believe it's now February and I managed to avoid cracking into every single box?  I know I can't...

Anyhow, a box I did crack into was the 1998 Fleer Tradition box.  It's been a fun ride so far - but with only a few packs left we are now getting close to "crunch time."  (Where "crunch time" is whether or not I can finish the base set from the one box.)

Pack 27:
358.  Kenny Lofton
377.  Henry Rodriguez
395.  Jimmy Haynes
432.  Todd Stottlemyre

I like images like this - it makes for a cooler shot than your typical "pitcher delivering the ball" image that permeates most sets.
456.  Geronimo Berroa
469.  Heathcliff Slocumb

Another quirky shot - and that means it's another awesome shot!  Street clothes?  Check.  High socks?  Check.  One guys face blocked by hands, the other by a butt?  Check.  A rope to jump over?  Check.  Seriously what more can you ask for?  Oh.  Plumber's butt?  Check.
499.  Rolando Arrojo
541.  Cliff Politte
555.  Stan Javier
Vintage '63:  79.  B.J. Surhoff - Orioles
Diamond Ink point (1 point):  Jay Buhner

Pack 28:
400.  Masato Yoshii
401.  Jose Vizcaino
424.  Jermaine Allensworth
425.  Esteban Yan
453.  Todd Walker
475.  Brian Moehler

Posed shots can be ok if they are done correctly.  Having what appears to be a gorgeous blue sky works well (even if the background is actually fake - hard to tell here).
502.  Tony Batista
525.  Darryl Hamilton
556.  Jaime Navarro
Vintage '63:  71.  Andres Galarraga - Braves
Diamond Ink point (1 point):  Alex Rodriguez

The two packs had a bunch of cool images - but unfortunately I only landed TWO new cards for my set - all the other base cards were duplicates...  Eight packs remain though - and I'm not missing too many base cards so I'm not too worried yet!

  1. Brian Moehler went to my alma mater UNC Greensboro. I wrote to him for a TTM auto a few years back. Sent me back a nice letter, and of course, he autographed the card I sent of him. Cool guy!
