Barry Larkin Collection 301: 1999 Skybox E-X Century - #34

Barry Larkin
Year:  1999
Brand:  Skybox E-X Century
Card number:  34

The 1999 Skybox E-X Century set is printed on thick acetate which makes the set a dream come true for collectors who like see through cards.  Barry has one base card in the set (the card seen here) and two parallels (Essential Credentials Now and Essential Credentials Future).  Both parallels are serially numbered, but unfortunately as of the time of this post I don't own either parallel.

Looking at the base card design, the front of the card is quite nice, but the realities of printing on a see through substance rear their ugly heads when looking at the back of the card.  The curved printing design used for the player statistics is virtually unreadable, and the complete lack of images, logos, or other interesting aspects makes the backside of the card extremely boring.

However, despite the poor design on the reverse of the card, I've always liked this particular Larkin card.  In fact, I think the front design is quite slick - and it's different from the normal card (in a good way) which helps the set stand out even more.  I would definitely be interested in a set like this released every four or five years by a major card manufacturer.
