Barry Larkin
Year: 2002
Brand: Donruss Diamond Kings
Parallel set: Bronze
Card number: 20
The 2002 Donruss Diamond Kings set has a variety of different parallels of each base card. The bronze parallel (shown above) has a white border and a brown (i.e. bronze) stamp on the front of the card. The card is not serially numbered - bronze parallels were seeded 1:6 packs so they aren't terrible rare. Quite honestly, the difference between the regular base cards and the bronze parallels is easy to miss in a photograph but in person telling them apart is simple. The regular base cards are all smooth while the bronze parallels have a raised frame around (similar to what Gypsy Queen does with their parallels).
I'm a sucker for framed baseball cards - so you know I like this parallel quite a bit! I don't (yet?) own any of the other parallels from this set which means I still need to track down the silver parallel (#/400) and the gold parallel (#/100). In addition, there are some "oddball" versions of this card out there including two Beckett samples (one with silver stamping and one with gold), a Hawaii Trade Conference promo, and a Chicago National promo. This is definitely one set where I have a lot of work to do to track down the remaining Barry Larkin cards!
