You'd be forgiven if you thought I already showed off the above "oddball" magazine card in a previous Barry Larkin Collection post. That's because back in 2023, I acquired an uncut sheet that included the above card. Now, I've got the cut version of the card to slot into my binder page (and don't worry, my uncut sheet is still pristine)!
I'll admit that this card taught me something. I had no idea that Barry signed the richest contract in Reds' history back in 1992. In fact, at the time that Barry signed the contract, he was the fifth-highest paid player in MLB! His contract was the largest ever for a shortstop at the time, further proof that there was a time when my beloved Cincinnati Reds didn't constantly plead poor and instead attempted to sign good players.
a. I do the same thing. If usually try to get my hands on uncut copies as well as the cut versions for my SI for Kids collection, as well as team and player PCs.
ReplyDeleteb. I feel ya on the Reds thing. Back in the early 90's, the A's were still willing to spend money on stars too.
